A Quick Chat With...Danuel Tate

Last week we gave you a free download from Danuel Tate. He’s probably best known for his role as founding member and keyboard player in Cobblestone Jazz but he’s also been sharing his own jazz nourished techno creations through releases on Mathew Jonson’s Wagon Repair record label. Enjoying sharing his time between the west coast of Canada and Berlin, where he spends his time collaborating with the rest of the Cobblestone Jazz members as well as diverting to some seriously heavy dub as heard on his ‘Lazy Jane’ release with Dead Beat earlier this year, we took some time to follow up with some quick fire questions about all areas of his musicality ahead of his live set in Room One this Saturday. Seeing as Danuel couldn’t find a suitable selection to pin his recommended listening down to one track from his back catalogue, we’ve also included a stream of his live set, recorded earlier this year to soundtrack your reading. If you were going to introduce someone to your music – what records would you pick out to play them? I think maybe it's better just to play for them..it's easier and we can do it together.. You’re here pretty much every year these days performing as part of Cobblestone Jazz – how did you come to be form the grouping with? We had some inspired friends, just good vibes really open you know You’ve had a collaboration out this year too with Deadbeat – quite the heavy dub affair – how did this record come about? We have known each other for many years and he is amazing..it was really fun and easy in his studio in Berlin Have you any others like this planned for the future? Oh sure ya we can do whatever it's easy to find time. Your next release is coming out on Mathew Jonson’s iswhatitis imprint – what is it that you like about working with Mat as record label manager? He is fair and honest and he really cares about music, but mostly he is a complete maniac. Are there others you’d aspire to release on in future or do you feel it’s important to keep things amongst trusted friends? No I think it's great to release on different labels. What else are you working no at the moment, will we see anything new from Cobblestone Jazz this year? Yes we have a bunch of great stuff..so nice for me to travel from Canada..it's super to have the times in mats studio in Berlin during the week.. Danuel Tate will be performing live in Room One this Saturday, joining Prosumer, Tama Sumo and Virgo Four (Live). For more info and tickets click here.
