Amit's production talent often goes before him. He's widely credited as birthing the half step style of drum & bass, an sub-genre and approach that helped breathe a bit of space back into a genre that was revelling in the technical prowess of its producers and bowing a little under the weight of all that layering. With releases on Commercial Suicide, Exit and Metalheadz it’s fair to say that his work is as respected within the scene as it is outside of it, with Amit’s stylistic infusion of middle Eastern flecked melodies and unique drum & bass mindset leading him to support Sonic Youth, work with legendary bassist and producer Bill Laswell and compose music for short films and theatrical productions.
Alongside all of those projects Amit still finds time to tout his live show, performing in clubs up and down the country and all around the globe. As he demonstrates on this 30 minute mix, made ahead of his appearance in the Metalheadz Room Two this Friday, his productions and selections offer a very individual prospect, with rhythms that intentionally deviate for the patterns and drops one might expect at a d&b rave. It’s all the better for it though, providing a largely groove led teaser of what you can expect from his this Friday night.
