Audio: Download Jehst's 'England'

From his breakthrough releases like the ‘High Plains Drifter EP,’ and more specifically on tracks from it like ‘1979’ or ‘City Of Industry,’ Jehst proved to be an incredibly biting lyricist. Managing to fuse cold and honest social commentary with a battle rap charged, first person delivery he towed the line between street behaviour theory and political intelligence perfectly. Having constantly hinted at his growing intolerance for the government, his new album, ‘The Dragon Of An Ordinary Family,’ contains the track ‘England’ and, much like the title suggests, it features Jehst addressing the pitfalls of living in modern day England. Over a layered piano and heavy boom bap drum pattern, he lets torrents of words fly in his easily recognisable colloquial soaked twang, proving that his new material is as vital and current as you’d expect from an artist who was this week named as the #2 ‘Ultimate Cult Hero’ by NME Magazine. Theo from the band Hurts put across Jehst’s case in that very issue writing: “He has the wordplay of a poet laureate, but the raw, uncompromising ferocity of someone like Eminem. He’s funny, disablingly intelligent and HD-vivid.” Ahead of his new album’s launch party here on 17th June, a showcase that features Jehst returning to the stage alongside globally respected turntablists (X-Ecutioner Rob Swift, Mr Thing and Harry Love) and acknowledged selectors (New York’s Stretch Armstrong and Rinse FM’s Alexander Nut), he’s kindly let us seed out ‘England,’ both to give you a taste of that much expected material and to spread the word about his upcoming performance. Download: Jehst – England Jehst’s ‘The Dragon Of An Ordinary Family’ is out on YNR Recordings on the 27th June. His launch party takes place in Room One on the 17th June. Tickets & Info here.
