Audio: Hatcha - Sin City X FABRICLIVE Promo Mix

Posted in Downloads Music on Thursday 13th January, 2011 by Smash Gordon

Croydon native and KISS 100 DJ, Hatcha, returns to Farringdon on the 28th January; bringing the blossoming juggernaut that is his and N-Type’s label, Sin City with him to Room 3. From its inception as a label back in February of 2009 with the Croydon Dubheadz compilation (which featured Benga, Chef, Coki and Lost amongst others) Sin City has set its markers high, reaching for the heads who follow the two label owners movements on their radio slots (Hatcha on KISS and N-Type on Rinse FM). The follow up to Dubheadz featured Skream, Hatcha, LD and Cluekid and with regular events now on the cards for the crew across the country, we thought it high time we caught up with one of the label's bosses, Hatcha.

As a DJ, Hatcha has been cited as being instrumental in the formation of modern dubstep. It was his sets at FWD>>, where he was a resident, that moulded the dark garage sound. His sets were chocked full of upfront dubplates from the DMZ brethren and the then young Benga and Skream and in the words of journalist Martin Clark: “While other DJs came with a collection of white labels (tracks immanently due for a public release), Hatcha arrived with a box of upfront dubplates: unique one-off exclusive tracks. No DJ could test.”

We caught up with him, shot him a few brief questions and let him use the rest of his time productively to put us together an exclusive studio mix. Something we’re proud and honoured to be able to present to you here…

What is Sin City?
Sin City is a record label, and dubstep club night.

Who makes up Sin City recordings?
Sin City is run by myself, N-Type and Bannerworx. Our artist rosta is varied with releases from Coki, Lost, LD, Skream, Benga, Kutz and more. We have just signed releases from Stinkahbell, so look out for them.

You started out playing dubstep back in 2000 - what are your thoughts on the progression it has gone through and where it is now?
The progression of the scene has been crazy, it just hasn't stop growing. Where the scene is now is a good place in my opinion because everyone is so excited about the music that they are hearing, big tingz in 2011

Do you have any forthcoming releases?
Yes, ‘Why So Serious’ b/w ‘Next 2 String’ has just been released on One Gun Salute, and ‘Albarsha’ b/w ’Welcome to Tibet’ forthcoming in February/ March on Sin City Recordings

Do you still find yourself cutting dubplates as much as you did years ago, or has it all become a digital thing with CDR's?
It's a bit of a shame, but it's kind of a CD thing for now. I was fed up of getting to clubs and the turntables are in a poor condition and the engineers don't sound check them before the night opens.

What are you looking forward to this year?
Pushing dubstep forward!
