Audio: Rhythmic Theory - FABRICLIVE x Idle Hands Mix
It’s pretty impossible to write something momentously meaningful about Bristolian producer Rhythmic Theory. Not because he’s your archetypal producer type of guy - a little bit borderline or socially maladjusted - but because, honestly, no one seems to know anything about him outside of the two track 12” he released on his city’s Idle Hands label. Cut from a similar mould as Kowton, who we’re comparing him to here so we can better frame our reference points to both a recognisable producer from the same label and the same South West cultural and creative scene, Rhythmic Theory’s music is streamlined and purposeful. With probably about 5 or 6 layers each, his debut release, ‘Legacy of the Lost’ and ‘Rivet’, are stark transmissions hinting both at a love for deeply darkened dancefloors and simpler times when the rawness and vitality of jungle beat everything else to the punch.
He’s playing as a key part of Idle Hands’ second takeover this Friday night, so ahead of all that, we asked him if he’d like to make us something that would help introduce himself through his choice of records. Obviously we don’t know if that message got through 100% because we went through someone else, but still, what he made was a delightfully informed mix that aligns some of his and labelmates AnD’s music with pieces by Delroy Edwards, Samuel Kerridge, Anthony Naples and Jus Ed & Fred P.
