Audio: Slimzee - 90 Min Set from 2002

Renowned is a bigger word than you’d necessarily think. Supple in its syllable pattern it means people know about you; it states that your reputation precedes you wherever you tread and its very much truth, in the case of DJ Slimzee. There are a couple of things you may well have heard about him already... 1. Reportedly the recipient of the first Anti Social Behaviour Order (ASBO for short) of its kind, Slimzee was banned from being on the roof of any building standing over four stories tall. He admitted operating a pirate radio station and received a 3 year conditional discharge after causing damage by erecting broadcast equipment. 2. He was a founding member of the Pay As U Go Cartel, the crew that gave the world emcees like Wiley, Target, Flo Dan and Riko and introduced players like Rinse FM boss Geeneus. 3. According to FACT magazine, he is “grime’s greatest DJ.” After a long, long bout of radio silence Slimzee resurfaced on Rinse FM at the beginning of March and he’s been playing a few gigs in and around London again, something that has excited a lot of grime fans since he undoubtedly still has tracks, VIPs and or dubplates that no one else has, or ever will have. We’re delighted and excited to be able to welcome Slimzee back to Farringdon and to Room One for Dub Police on the 22nd - especially since he’s agreed to perform a highly lauded 2002 set. In an attempt to mark the occasion we’ve sourced a 90 minute set from the exact year he’s promised to recreate, thanks to the archive site, Grimetapes. It features Dizzee Rascal, Durrty Goodz (then Durrty Doogz) and Maxwell D. Download: Slimzee ft Dizzee Rascal, Durrty Doogz, Maxwell D – 2002 – 90 mins (Direct Download/Right Click, Save As)
