Back to Back: Carreno is LB + Javi Redondo and their fabric Promo Mix

Jennifer Cardini's Correspondant Records has been going strong for 8 years now. First starting off as a party at Paris's Rex Club the brand is now home to a plethora of artists from Naum Gabo to Daniel Avery to our guests on the blog today: Javi Redono and Carreno is LB. Both artists hail from Spain rather than the label's native France, but both share a love for the boogie tinged four four of their recording home and while they don't have much to share production credit wise they've both teamed up to put together an exclusive back to back set for us today as we look forward to them both making their Farringdon debut on Saturday. Listen up in the player below and get to know the pair better in our b2b interview below. Javi Redondo: Hey I'm Javi Redondo, I'm a DJ and producer. I'm from Cordoba, in the south of Spain, but I have lived in Madrid for the past 9 years. I also have my own night called Sport, a total underground haven for styles like new wave, acid, kraut, post-disco, techno..... Carreno is LB: As you may have already read, I'm a fervent lover of irreverent and profane music, my name is Daniel, i grew up in a small town called Las Palmas (Canary Islands) and actually I'm based in Madrid. Can you describe how and when you came to DJ and make music? JR: I've always been surrounded by music and by people with very strong musical culture my whole life. I started DJing very young and have always been looking... for music, for artists, for new styles... For so many years I spent all my savings on vinyl. I guess it was after I bought my first decks when I was 16, I had that moment, you know when everything suddenly 'clicks'....as horrendously cliche as that sounds! CLB: I did a lot of partying when i was 17 / 18, losing a lot of money and time. So, finally the light came over me and I decided to get more interesting and go deeper than that banal shit. My first gig as a DJ was a mess by the way it was at a beach, making these horse effects all the time, very young and anxious. That was an important point of reflection for my DJ Career. From that moment, I decided to start training like a mango, with all that that entails. Now I can say I'm getting mature! What kind of labels and artists played a part in influencing your music today? JR: After more than 15 years of DJing and more than 20 listening obsessively to music, you create such an eclectic range of artists and labels that inspire you. It's such an overwhelming task to pick out some names here. It would be like a huge never ending shopping list that goes on and on… CLB: Whoa, a lot. I hate this question because it’s pretty compromising. Wagon Repair played an important role, Kompakt never disappoints, Poker Flat and M_nus in the golden age was amazing as well. Today - Frustrated Funk, L.I.E.S, Minimal Wave, Items & Things, Get The Curse and of course my beloved Correspondant all the stuff they release I can say with my hand on my chest is incredible. You’re playing for Jennifer Cardini’s Correspondant Records this weekend – how did you come to work with the label? JR: I got to know Jennifer personally through friend and great artist Remain (Romain Rouffiac). She signed my first EP, I also released in her first Correspondant Compilation and every time we have played together she has totally blown everyone away with her set and energy. She is a very special person for me and it's going to be huge to play with her at fabric. CLB: Yes, i think it was love at first sight (is impossible to resist my handsomeness), not really, Jennifer was giving me some great feedback on my records, so I decided to write to her and she offered me to do an EP on her label, I did it and here I am! Apart from that she is quite cute and ultra sweet! Check my new EP on Correspondant, it's ultra spooky and trippy and Richard Nixon loved it! You both recorded this mix together – are you guys quite common pairings in the DJ booth and studio then? JR: Dani (Carreno is LB) & I are good mates, we know each other well. We each have our own studios and our own different styles and personalities. When we can, we try and get together and collaborate because when we do, we usually end up with some interesting stuff. CLB: Javi runs night called Sport in Madrid where I'm resident once a month and yes, we are working on a remix now for Remain's MEANT label. We would like to work more together, but we're both quite busy now. Let's see what happens in the future! Can you tell us about the ideas and music that go into the mix? We tried to do something special. We focused on using old vinyl, looking for weird stuff and playing it differently from the original version. It's packed full of edits, unreleased tracks from both of us and crazy analog sequences. We hope you like it.... From Madrid with love.
