The latest artist to step up for Resident Advisor’s weekly podcast is Hemlock Recordings boss, Jack Dunning - though you’d probably know him better as Untold. Already this summer we’ve seen his vinyl triptych, Change in a Dynamic Environment, which has helped cement Dunning’s reputation for sonic evolution, as he turns away from any notion of his ‘dubstep’ past and lurches onwards into techno. His Madonna like reinvention is something we’ve welcomed with open arms, particularly when you consider that the final installment of the trio pulls you into his deep into his dreams of post-punk diasporas as much as it does warehouses.
As he admits in the podcasts’ accompanying interview, the switch ups he’s made throughout his discography can sometimes create confusion in the crowds of followers who know him specifically for certain ventures (ahem, ‘Anaconda’... cough, ‘Stop What You’re Doing’) have won him, but then that’s precisely the sort of mis-reasoning behind his forthcoming appearance in Room Two on Saturday 29th September. Slated to appear alongside Cosmin TRG, who’s made a similarly succesful furrow into techno and 4x4 after a spritely beginning in 2step, and a live performance from Skudge, we’re hoping that Dunning will make complete sense of his shifts when presented the opportunity to do so.
So… what exactly can you expect from his RA mix? Well, it’s been described by the Untold himself as “an hour of dark, percussive techno with an industrial edge. Something suitable for a motorway drive at night;” or by us as a perfect to start to the week…
