Started by Alley Cat, the Kokeshi label is now standing five releases strong. Sitting much as Alley Cat does, bordering on the cusps of drum & bass and dubstep, the imprint has so far been home to artists Lung and Irrelevant, along with some of Alley Cat’s own work and forthcoming projects from Russian producer, Bulb. Nursing a distinct perspective that coasts on that meditative kind of bass weight, the collective are heading to host Room Three on this month’s final Friday night and they’ve put together a lineup that reflects what they’re about. Aligning the crushing, cinematic presence of Kryptic Minds with another half step crusader V.I.V.E.K they’re representing the true school sides of both dubstep and drum & bass whilst showcasing artists that deserve a little more shine; like Kito, an Australian producer whose been a little quiet since her release on Skream’s Disfigured Dubz label and Irrelevant, an artist signed exclusively to Kokeshi.
With the year ahead promising album projects from Irrelevant as well as a compilation of tracks taken from the Kokeshi podcasts we wanted to shine a light on some of the productions housed on the label but Alley Cat went one better. Below the youtubes and this idle chatter you’ll find details of a super exclusive competition to win copies of the last two vinyl releases (KOKESHI004 & 005) from Lung, featuring the infamous Kryptic Minds rework of ‘Afterlife’ – voted Best Remix in the 2010 Dubstepforum awards - and Irrelevant plus a test pressing of KOKESHI006 (one of only 5 that were made), Bulb’s single ‘Tenderness’ b/w ‘Heartless’...
