Get On Down With Mr G's Rum Expertise

Posted in Features on Thursday 01st July, 2010 by Annie Buckle

It’s not hard to be won over by the easy-going, fun-loving nature of UK house music producer and self-confessed rum enthusiast, Mr G aka Colin McBean. Having enjoyed two decades in the dance world, dozens of remixes and solo EPs and a solid relationship with techno kingpin, Radioslave aka Matt Edwards; it comes as a surprise to us all that Mr G’s debut solo album (out, fittingly, on Rekids) hit the shelves for the first time on June 21st. A pivotal moment for the house veteran, if you haven’t checked out his talents on 'Still Here (Get On Down)', treat yourself to a heavy dose of underground energetic grooves. Rewind to 1999 when Mr G first founded his label Phoenix G and you can still catch some of that unique analogue bass-heavy electronic tech-funk deeply rooted within the new nine-track package; a sound that never fails to create dancefloor damage.

Setting tongues wagging in the fabric office, track two on the album, entitled ‘Firewater,’ is a tribute to Mr G’s unquenchable thirst for rum. Turns out this DJ can mix cocktails as well as beats and his essential rum recipe for you this summer is aptly crowned a ‘G Spot.’ So find yourself a shaker, grab the ingredients below and let Mr G share his poison, perfect for sipping in this blazing English sun. What’s more, the ‘rum master’ has layed down a playlist for your very own cocktail party, the after party and where his five favourite rums should be drunk across the globe…thirsty, anyone?

My essential rum recipes right now is....................A G spot...................2 hits a over proof rum
