Horror Inc.'s Most Wanted: Treehouse Living

It's human nature to dream about those potentially life-changing objects of desire in the margins of everyday life. Even when you’re one of the world's top Detroit House music producers like Mike Huckaby, who recently told us that the Waldorf Stomberg Synthesizer is what’s buzzing on his most wanted gear list, there is room for want in an already accomplished life. So it makes sense that forward thinking live act Horror Inc. holds his own aspirations for an object that will help him fulfil his goal of living a more simplistic way of being and for one day to have an alternative dwelling beyond the bricks and mortar of the modern world - the ultimate retreat from today’s over commercialised world - a tree house. Horror Inc. of course is another sudonym of Marc Leclair the man also behind micro house don Akufen known most dearly to us for his skilfully crafted fabric 17 release and for being a repeatedly welcome guest over the years on the Room One stage. So, we’re well aware of the impressive level of sound quality in store for when he next plays live for the third Villa10bos adventure in Farringdon this year and as an influence and inspiration of Villalobos himself, they come together in Room One next to Craig Richards and Deadbeat. I would love to own a home, but not any kind of home. As a young one, I've always dreamed of playing in a treehouse, like most children of my age. I was brought up in the city which made it obviously impossible for me to build one. A few years ago at my most pleasant surprise and delight, I came across a wonderful book published by a group of french architects who designed tree houses for grownups. I just couldn't believe it. I did some research and started dreaming again. These are fairly expensive, and I don't think I could ever afford one someday, but I would love to look into building one myself with the help of some friends. I think we never subconsciously let go these dreams, which is why, ideally I would love to take part in the whole operation of crafting the house at lower costs, recycling existing materials. The personal satisfaction I would get from it would probably be even more overwhelming than just hiring someone to do it. I'd like to have different levels to it. One where I would live, one guest house, and a studio. It would have to be four seasons preferably, making it the ideal get away for winter days. It's also about having an environment friendly home in harmony with nature I think, cause I'd definitely wish to have it solar powered. Most people who know me well, understand I'm a bit of a recluse and how much I fancy retreats in the nature. It's been always much closer to me than the city will ever be. I discovered the American author, philosopher, abolitionist and naturalist Henry David Thoreau's essay on living simply, in margin of our materialistic society, and it spoke to me right away. It has become a life goal of mine since then to reduce my needs and possessions. And it works wonderfully! And if it's not a tree house, than it will be a simple shack in the wood with a garden, nearby a lake, surrounded by mountains. I simply cannot picture myself growing old in the city. I will need to get closer to nature someday, it has become a priority. Come and celebrate 10 Years Of Ricardo Villalobos with us on 6th July and watch Horror Inc. live. Info and tickets: here.
