Introduce Yourself: GREENMONEY PRODUCTIONS

Posted in Interviews on Tuesday 18th August, 2009 by Eva Law

Greenmoney Productions are a hot new production/DJ dup hailing from West London but these two boys are respected in their own right. Leo Greenslade, a member of the team behind the Notting Hill institution that is the YoYo club night, and Alex Phountzi, a former member of the broken beat collective tour de force Bugz In The Attic, have a shared love of black music and, after joining forces in 2008, have combined their talents remixing artists such as Kidsister, Kid Cudi, Yo Majesty, Terry Lynn, Busy Signal, and Detroit’s Amp Fiddler. As well as pushing buttons behind the boards the dup have also been holding down their regular radio broadcasts on Ministry Of Sound and Brooklyn Radio, where the boys are best known for joining the dots between House, Hip Hop, Drum and Bass and Dubstep.

We had a quick catch up with Leo and Alex to talk money, cards and sausages.

Can you tell us a bit more about yourselves?
Greenmoney Productions is Alex Phountzi formerly of Bugz In The Attic and Leo Greenslade of yOyO fame and a plugger to the stars

Can you share the story of how you met and ended up as Greenmoney?
We hooked up in a Rave Shed over a shared love of drinking beer. We knocked up some beats and have kept doing it....

Inspiration for the name?
The collapse of Lehmans bank and Bernie Mad(e)off. The credit crunch and global financial meltdown inspired us in a nut shell…

Do you remember your first memory of when music really made an impact towards your careers in music?
The Carnival Soundsystems back in the day…

Do you ever have ‘artistic differences’? If so how do you tackle the situation? Do you hash it out with a game of duel, gladiator style?
We're not into gladiators; we play raps with a deck of cards....

If you were being followed by a camera crew filming say… ‘A night in the lives of Greenmoney,’ what could be expected on the itinerary for the evening?
A night at the opera followed by dinner at Nobu, then ohhhhh… maybe a nightcap at Claridges... alternatively dinner from Chicken Cottage in Kensal Rise followed by a four pack of Stella...

What is your personal choice in snackage for feeding the hungry belly after a night of mayhem?
Whatever we can get our hands on. They do a mean sausage round the corner from your joint if our memory serves us correctly. Just don't wolf that sucka down or u will pay the price with 3rd degree burns to the roof of your mouth!

Finally…What are your next steps in terms of world domination?
Tunes, tunes and more tunes. Watch out for debut original material dropping autumn 09. We’ve been in the studio recently working hard with artists like Lady Chann, Serocee and Mz Bratt...

You can catch Greenmoney alongside MJ Cole, Zed Bias and Seiji in Room Three this Friday. If you can’t wait that long get those mouse button fingers functioning on the links below!
