Redshape's last visit to Farrindon was at the beginning of 2011; and timed to give prospective club goers an insight into the man behind the red mask, the Tea & Techno blog took the opportunity for this in depth interview. They unearthed news of a work in progress by the transgressive techno artist, concerning a new live project that potentially would come into fruition by the end of the summer. That project is Palisade, an outlet which saw its first release in May this year on Laid Records. Entitled ‘So What,’ the track is immediately softer than Redshape material, almost romantic in nature thanks mainly to the guitar holding the main hook.
Ahead of his appearance at the Infine Records takeover of Room Two next Saturday we wanted to find out what this means for Redshape and the story behind the project. So like the inquisitive people we are, we asked...
“Palisade came to my mind when I was doing a really deep slowish pattern on my 808,” came the response. “I thought it might be a good idea to have a separate moniker for that kind of sound, a more introverted music than I'm doing as Redshape.”
The project sees a change in tempo and the results are based on the primal sensibilities of house music; something with true feeling at its core. As he says, “the project is a playground for music not suitable to anything specific, but it’s really atmospheric, deep and honest”
“The live show kinda reflects that,” he offers; “although it’s a bit more danceable than the actual project aims to be, but that’s OK, it’s still very different from Redshape. From time to time there comes some Palisade into Redshape shows now (and vice versa)... but it kinda represents the LOW end where Redshape is concentrated on the MIDS...”
“And of course there will be a black mask.”
