Introducing: Nicole Moudaber and her fabric Promo Mix

It almost seems criminal that Saturday 20th July is going to be the first time that Nicole Moudaber joins us in Room Two. It's not that she’s unfamiliar with Farringdon, she was a core part of promotions team at ex-mega club, Turnmills, for a huge proportion of her career - as she notes below, even before we had opened our doors - which was just around the corner. In addition to her promoter roles Nicole has, over the last few years, released on a number of record labels including Drumcode, brought the rave to Lebanon and incited such passionate admiration in her followers they have had her moniker tattooed onto their skin. So today we feel very happy to be able to get to speak to Nicole and present her latest mix which is chocked full of fresh output from her own MOOD label, ahead of her debut in joining The Black Dog and Alan Fitzpatrick on Saturday 20th July... Download: Nicole Moudaber - fabric Promo Mix We all know you instigated raves in your home of Beirut, at a time before there was anything happening there rave wise. What was it that got you involved and inspired with techno? The love of music. I was eager to share my experiences in a country where war had ravaged the city for almost 17 years. I didn't expect anything from the party, I just wanted to do it. The outcome turned out to be incredible and we had over a thousand people partying in the middle of a ruined city. I’ve been hooked on promoting ever since, which consequently led me to work with Turnmills for over five years… at a time when fabric wasn't even open! From reading interviews it sounds like you had quite a natural progression from starting out DJing to then becoming an in demand artist – do you think it’s changed these days for people to get noticed as DJs? Producing music is key these days. DJs who tend to rely purely on DJing will find it harder to break through - but it's not impossible of course. Something that’s struck me about you is that you seem to have a really big and passionate fanbase – some even have a tattoo with your logo on! How important is it for you to get this kind of feedback as an artist? It's a great feeling for an artist because without the fans then the artists will not survive as they are the core of an artist's success. I love it when fans send me t-shirts they've made especially for the party, or when they tattoo my logo on themselves. It is an amazing feeling and it reinforces why I do what I do and drives me to give them more and share with them what I love most: music. Your new album, Believe, was released on Drumcode why did you think that was the best platform for it? My album reflects what Drumcode is about, it's mainly techno but with a dash of house and tech. I love Drumcode as a label and I support everything they release. I carefully picked the tracklisting with Adam’s help and managed to come up with a great musical journey, which caters for deep house lovers and techno fans alike. What’s it been like for you to be part of the DC family – they’re quite a close and busy crew right? They are brilliant. What I love most about them is they treat every artist with equal respect and when we play the Drumcode parties all over the world everyone is the headliner. I don’t think you find this anywhere else with branded shows and it’s a very special and unique thing. Can you tell us more about MOOD please? What’s the label’s ethos and what do you have planned? The ethos of MOOD is simple: it’s house and techno. I love house music and MOOD is a great outlet which allows me to release my ‘housier’ music and that of other artists who I love and respect. The artists who feature on MOOD will also range from established names, right through to up-and-coming artists and it will be a mixture of both. My next release is coming from Just Be (best known as Bushwacka!) with a Stacey Pullen remix and so far the support has been incredible. It will be out on July 15th. Artists like Anja Schneider, Rodriguez Jr, Gary Beck and a collaboration I'm working with Carl Cox are all on the menu. There’s something really interesting in the works with you, I see you’ve been working with Skin - it’s quite interesting seeing as Skunk Anansie were rockers. How has it worked out musically for your collaboration? They still are rockers! They are on tour at the moment with a new album out. I used to bump into Skin in Ibiza where we met a few times at various parties and recently we shared a flight back from Portugal to London where we sat next to each other and chatted all the way home. I had to pop the question and had nothing to loose by asking "are you up for singing on one of my records?" She said yes and the next thing I know she was in my studio in Dalston recording two songs which she wrote there and then. Obviously she'd heard the tracks before and she really digged the vibe. Skin had a pen and a pad and she wrote two songs on the spot. That's talent for you! I was stunned at how quickly the words just came out and how well she managed to capture the vibe on the records. She went into the vocal booth and we recorded the takes. I’ve been playing them throughout my sets and I am still fine tuning them as I go along. This EP is mega for me and working with an artist of that calibre is immense and very exciting and her voice reaches me on a deep level. Stay tuned for this one: rock meets techno. What else do you have going on at the moment, is this summer busy for you? I’m very busy as I’ve got so many shows lined up in Ibiza at Space and for Music On at Amnesia. I’m also playing the closing of Ants closing at Ushuaia as well as festival like Movements in Italy, Monegros in Spain and Electric Zoo in New York with the Drumcode crew. I will also be throwing my first MOOD party in Ibiza at Sands beach on August 7th, with Danny Tenaglia, Anja Schneider, Carlo Lio, Alan Fitzpatrick, Nathan Barato, Just Be and new kid on the block from Berlin Tom Peters. You’ve recorded us a mix before you join us in Room Two soon – can you tell us a bit about the mix please how did you go about the track selection process? I thought I’d do a special one for you, which is more of a listening experience rather than full on techno. On the mix you will hear exclusives from my label MOOD that no one has heard before, so I hope you'll like the vibe. This mix can be listend to when you're by the pool or on a boat, in the office or driving in a car.
