Introducing: The Dubstep Focused Trio, Gentlemen's Club

For a genre that's regularly been described as 'dead', Gentlemen's Club are one collective of producers who are undoubtedly keeping the dubstep vibe alive. Hailing from across the UK, the prolific trio comprised of Coffi, Soloman and 50 Carrot, produce a unique strain of dubstep that has thus far set the scene alight. Merging elements of hip hop and grime into the genre, their output is a fusion of their three individual styles and in the four years since they first formed, they've released a string of acclaimed material from their GC Collections Vol 1 & 2 to a string of EPs on their self operated imprint, GC. Set to join us in Room One next Friday (1st April) alongside scene titans Caspa & Rusko, we asked a few probing questions to go alongside this exclusive mix so that we could get a proper taster of exactly the kind of swagger they'll be donning next Friday. Download: Gentlemen's Club - FABRICLIVE Mix  For those who may not have heard of you yet can you briefly explain who you guys are? Gentlemen's Club: We are Gentlemen's Club, a producing trio consisting of Coffi, Soloman and 50 Carrot. We are predominantly a dubstep act but we like to delve into each corner of the bass music world & fuse that within our productions. And how’s it all been going as of late? What have you been up to? As of recent we have been making a ton of new music for our live shows, trying new ideas! We've also been on the road playing a bunch of shows internationally! It's mad to see the support from around the world! So take us back to the beginning, how did you guys meet and come to work together? We each individually got booked for the same show in Belgium a few years back, it was a great night!  We all got along really well and then it just happened from there. Started hanging out, making music...that's when GC was born! As a trio do you have a specific process when it comes to working together in the studio? One of us usually comes forward with the start of an idea, from there we then sit down together and work on it as a group. Then depending on where we are at that particular time we'll transfer the file between each of us to work on separately, where we'll keep passing the file around until we come to an agreement on the final project. How would you say you complement each other sonically and how does that resonate throughout your music? We all have our own unique styles and techniques when it comes to producing music. They blend together almost perfectly when we all sit down and write a track together. We'll usually start with an intro though and then build the 'drop' around the vibe of the intro. How does it feel being on the line up for 1st April?  How are you guys going to make an impact amongst such a great line up?   It's an honour! fabric has been at the top of our wishlist for years now! We're hoping to bring back some of the old school vibes that got us into dubstep originally, as well as some newer material. It's going be an interesting set for sure, a blend of past and present... and future? In a recent interview you said that 'genres don’t die' referring to the dubstep scene. The anticipation around the forthcoming date here in Farringdon I think is just one of the things that signifies that. Why do you think people are quick to refer to the genre as 'dead' when clearly it’s still very much alive? I think when individuals stop listening to a certain genre or stop paying attention to a particular scene they automatically think it's dead, purely because they aren't involved anymore. It's like saying 'punk is dead', but that's not true we're just not aware of what's happening in that scene. Other than yourselves, who would you say is keeping the genre moving forward? P0gman, Trampa, London Nebel, 12th Planet, Funtcase and Cookie Monsta are just a handful... I mean, we could go on all day with this! There are literally so many people pushing the genre forward at the moment, so salute to everyone pushing! Finally, can you tell us a little bit about the mix you’ve just made for us?  It's a mix of everything that we love about dubstep; from the darker stuff to the heavier side of dubstep. We love how diverse the genre is with so many different sounds and directions and we think this mix is a great showcase of that.
