Introducing Vakula and His fabric Promo Mix

vakula A torrential downpour of adventurous house producers will be making their way to fabric this Saturday for the Aus Music Room Two takeover. Lead by label chief, Will Saul, he’s invited the ubiquitous Ukrainian DJ, Vakula to purvey the deepest, off-kilter territories of house and if you like the sound of that then his releases on Firecracker, 3rd Strike, Dekmantel and his new label, Leleka should have you lost in orbit. As Vakula readies himself to join the hair-splitting bass and roughed-up house beats of Joy Orbison, George Fitzgerald and Lee Jones (live), we checked in for a brief but perspective chat about old and new era house DJ’s, a new album and why he wishes he’d stop losing his hair. He’s even hand-stamped us a heavyweight promo mix which you can get straight after the jump: DOWNLOAD: Vakula fabric Promo Mix What’s your relationship with Aus Music and the other artists joining you in Room Two this Saturday? It's just that we're all into music, something that unites all of us in this world. How has starting your DJ career in your home country, Ukraine influenced your understanding of music and helped you grow as an artist? I'm sure music would have found me anywhere, regardless of location, so it makes no difference whether it happened in Russia, the Ukraine or elsewhere. What do you think distinguishes you as a DJ and producer from other people? What is the hallmark of your style? I'm distinguished from others only by the fact that I am different; all people are different and distinguished. I think I'm beginning to grow on working with melody, rather than rhythm. Tell us about your real affiliation with house music? Where does the passion lie and what other house DJ’s (old & new-era) do you truly admire? I respond to everything that is a reflection of my current disposition. I like the old era DJs Joe Claussell, Theo Parrish, Francois K. Dj Harvey. Recently, when I have played in Japan, I've discovered Thomas Bullock, but he turned out to be "old" too. You’ve released on Uzuri, Quintessentials, Archipel, Firecracker and 3rd Strike among others. What’s been some of the best advise you’ve taken on board working with these leading labels? I don't want to work with labels like Uzuri anymore. Lindsay Todd of Firecracker is actually my long-lost father, supportive and generous. What would you say have been the biggest challenges for you this year? Life is like a wave, from hardships to blessings. What's in your record bag that is most consistently hitting the spot right now? Terrence Dixon - Emergency on V/A Meakusma. Tell us about your two labels, ‘Leleka’ and ‘Shevchenko’, the later of which you’ve recently released your third EP, ‘Dub As Always .’ Can you tell us more about the release... I prefer to keep it a secret. If I share everything with people, who are into my music, there will be none of me left to share. Is there a new album on the horizon? What else can we look forward to from you this year and beyond? Yeah, soon you can see one LP, some EP and remixes. Finally, if you could have one wish come true what would it be? To stop losing my hair!
