Introducing...Victor Rosado + His fabric Promo Mix

Chosen by the legendary Larry Levan to play alongside him, Victor Rosado is the only DJ left who authentically embodies the sound of the seminal New York dance mecca, Paradise Garage. After becoming heavily involved in David Mancuso's renowned underground Loft parties during the 80's and 90's, exchanging music together and spinning on occasion, he soon caught the attention of Levan to play Paradise, making all his musical dreams come true. Last year we played our tribute to the late, great resident that is Larry Levan all night long in Room Three with Rosado at the helm of an extended disco journey looking back through all its glorified history. Since then the NYC stalwart has been busy working on remixes for the self-titled debut LP from Nina Kraviz with three very special limited 12"s soon to drop on Radio Slave's Rekids imprint while also embarking on a European tour for November, stopping off in Farringdon this Saturday next to his home boy from the big apple, Brennan Green. To celebrate his return to a bill that also sees the likes of Virgo Four, Prosumer and Antony Rother in the mix, Victor has given us a very rare 'retro 80-90 house music set. Songs I love and played a lot. Back then' - so take some time to rewind and read his honest exchange of words with us below. DOWNLOAD: Victor Rosado fabric Promo Mix Hi Victor, can you tell us a bit about your life in NYC? What's a ‘normal’ day like for you living there? I was born and raised in New York City by my mother and I have three sisters and one brother. They are older than me but the thing that I realized was that as they brought new things home like clothes, music, and dance culture. I would somehow be drawn to imitate some of there habits. I was quickly thrown into a world of hip music and great stories of early clubs and the scene. I first started going to neighborhood house parties every weekend but my mum wanted me home by 11 pm. I thought to myself that the parties get going about 12 am so I would lose out on the action and music. It was either that or suffer the wrath of my mum’s fury and the huge leather belt she possessed. So I said, if I'm going to get in trouble for coming home late I might as well stay really late as I would get the same punishment either way. Then as time went by I started to get people that my mum respected to chaperone me on these parties nights so things would be better for me. As time went by I thought I'd use this excuse to explain to mum that it's better to come home in the day time like 6am than to try and come home at 2 or 3 when its still dark out, as this would be more dangerous for me. So she bought it hook line and sinker. My disco adventures had begun, there was no stopping me now. In NYC there was always something to do or a place where music would be playing whether it be in the streets or just in the park and even by the public pools. The music was non-stop, everywhere I would go there it was and we danced, it didn’t matter. That was a normal day for me in NYC. Where do you love to go to in NYC to let loose and enjoy dance music freely? When I am in NYC I love to go to private house parties or the Loft party if I happen to be there at the same time in which David Mancuso is having an event. I used to go to 718 sessions to hear Danny Krivit. Can you tell us about the remixes you’ve put together for Nina Kraviz debut LP on three special limited 12"s? How did you hook up with Nina & Rekids? The three tracks I remixed for Nina Kraviz are... 'Aus Release Yourself' When I heard this track it reminded me of a spoken word type of song with a beat. It was originally very relaxed in feel so I thought to myself I wanted to make it a little more tribal without being repetitious and I love Michael Olatungi (Jingo Also Robert Owens/Larry Heard from Fingers INC so that’s were I began. I built the song around the connotations of the word 'dancers.' 'Taxi Talk' I wanted a slick NYC type of record with all the street noise of a busy city like New York in the rush hour, evoking just how hectic it can be to get a taxi cab when your in a rush. You can hear her stressing while calling for a taxi and the heavy beats in the back hypnotic pulse taking you on a journey as you walk the streets coming at you from everywhere. The percussive samples are just bits and pieces to accentuate all the different sounds you hear would normally hear while transitioning from block to block in a big city like NYC. 'Choices' It was the first one I did and finished and I experimented with different parts of other songs and came to like what I did. It was all done from four different tracks putting together and cutting, wedging and manipulating them all to lay Nina's vocals over them, its like my Frankenstein Baby via Cesarian. I met Matt through a friend called Alex Pewin and we met over the Winter Music Conference in March 2012. We talked about doing music and remixes to create a buzz for me and a brand as well. Also Matt liked some of the remixes I had done prior to our meeting over the last year. I listened to the Nina CD and decided what I wanted to try and remix. They sent me the parts immediately and I started to work on them. We are now going to do a mixed CD of me playing NYC style and have a tour set up for November at the Panorama Bar in Berlin and Warsaw Poland as well including the infamous fabric club in London. Our futures are going to be well thought out and musically lucrative. Please keep your ears to the wall and listen for us. In what ways does Paradise Garage live on in you today? There’s only one answer for this question and it's my music ideology on how to be an artist, as well as a great tool to help others to succeed in music as a community so we can all share in our collective passions, while here on earth. If you had to pick three special remixes of the many 70’s & 80’s dance floor classics you’ve worked on over the years what would they be? These are my favorites but I didn’t do them myself -I just truly love these songs. Victim- Candi Staton Weekend- Phreek Over and Over- Ashford and Simpson Finally, how are you looking forward to returning to Room Three this Saturday next to Brennan Green? I love some of Brennan Greens work like the Metro Recordings. I used to play them a lot in NYC and I hope I can get a couple of new tunes from him at this party, so I have some new music by him as well. Who knows I smell collaboration in the air. What I offer people is a musical journey and a class in story telling. I think people are always up for a good story don’t you? I am serving dinner by way of spiritual love and vibes via the music in any space I'm in, so with this said I think everyone wants to be loved by someone else and why not let it be me? Even if just for a couple of hours, lets love each other through music and mutual respect and lets talk to one another on the floor through body movement and music. Saturday is a name given to represent a collection of hours in time each week. Love is the foundation on which to build positive experiences no matter where you may be. So lets love each other this Saturday night at fabric in Room three and take home a feeling of satisfaction that you were part of this night and experience.
