Michael Mayer On...Mantasy

Kompakt boss Michael Mayer dropped his second LP, 'Mantasy' last October after an eight year gap between album projects and on Saturday 16th February we’re celebrating the rhythmic hypnotic wonder of his latest masterpiece as the leading force of Room One. In an intuitive and pleasurable extended DJ set, the super star talent who once mixed the 13th installment of our fabric CD series- a champion in our collection a decade on to this year - will be taking us on a dancefloor pilgrimage to Farringdon like never before. We can't wait to see how Mayer weaves the night in a unique amalgam of house and techno soundscapes and talking to him over the web, under the weather but still determined not to miss his deadline in giving us his account of the Mantasy-making process, he reveals all to us below... "It's been a bit more than a year that I've began working on Mantasy, my second studio album. What started out as a very solitary, private affair in my studio turned into something completely different. At some point, the record came out and naturally became a public subject of criticism or praise. That's the way it goes. I've witnessed the same effect with all my other releases but it still fascinates me every time: The album feels like a stranger to me now. Like someone else produced it. I mean, I still thoroughly love the album. Probably even more than right after its completion." "The tracks congealed to something definite. I've stopped listening to the details, stopped searching for mistakes. There's no more paranoia about the sound and mastering. Now, it is what it is. It's called Mantasy for reasons that I still can't really explain. Maybe the stranger that produced the album can. I'm the guy who's taking the album on tour. I'm putting it into a greater picture, cross-referencing and confronting it with other people's music that I love. That's where all dance records have to go one day: On the dancefloor. And boy oh boy, I can't wait to hear Mantasy on fabric's soundsystem! See you there!" Inverted Audio have three vinyl copies of Mantasy to giveaway over on their Facebook page so don't miss your chance to win a copy before Michael Mayer joins John Heckle, live and Craig Richards in Room One on 16th February.
