Roska Presents Interviews... Um... Roska

It’s only a few hours before Roska sets down in our first space to join forces with his carefully selected crew of cohorts for Roska Presents. Moving from his usual Room Two spot, the Rinse FM DJ and selector has invited Breakage, Wookie and a hotbed of talent including Hannah Wants, Billon and Preditah to join him in Room One for what promises to be a solid nine hour slog of unadulterated vibes. So whilst it’s no question that the anticipation for tonight’s show has been building up steadily over the past few weeks, we thought we’d give ourselves one last turn at spreading the anticipation a little further by giving each artist on the bill the task of asking the boss man Roska one question each in this slightly off-beat interview… Breakage: What’s the funniest or scariest thing that’s happened to you at a gig? Roska: The funniest to happen to me was when I went b2b with Jackmaster at Sub Club in Glasgow back in 2010. The lights came on and there was this bra on the deck! I think the scariest thing to happen to me at a gig was during a set in Birmingham last year where I was so, so drunk on the DJ table, I remember actually thinking I had fallen onto the stage. Preditah: What is your favourite venue to play at and why? Roska: It's a toss-up between Rainbow in Birmingham and fabric. I think Rainbow Warehouse has to be my all-time favourite though. I played at an event called 10:31 with Tom Shorterz and co last year in front of a sold out crowd and it definitely had to be big highlight of 2013 for me. On the other hand, from a DJ’s perspective, fabric’s great hospitality and organisation is completely on point. And I think as a spectator, every room has its own special glow! I’ve managed to play in all three and there’s definitely an attribute that’s unique to each one. Hannah Wants: What's your favourite food? Do you like egg fried rice? Roska: My favourite food has to be a Caribbean dish - curried chicken with rice and peas, but I'd say on a Friday evening when I’m at home and no one wants to cook, Chinese take-away has to go down so yes, egg fried rice is my favourite rice dish when it’s with chilli shredded beef and some vegetable spring rolls. Billon: If you could remix any song, what would it be? Roska: My all-time favourite song I actually got to remix was Zed Bias - Neighbourhood. But for this exercise I'd have to say DJ Gregory - Don't Panic. Actually, scrap that! It would be Joker – Tron. Jamie George: If you could be any other producer for a day, who would it be? Roska: I'd have to say Timbaland because I’ve always been into his productions, especially around his collaborations with Aaliyah and Missy Elliot. Wookie: What was the first vinyl you ever bought? Roska: It was a Red Rose Recordings white label of Poison. Faze Miyake:  Are you really, really from the ends? Roska: Born and bred in South London at Lewisham Hospital back in the ‘80s.
