Sound of Kuduro

Buraka Som Sistema

Buraka Som Sistema hail from Lisbon and make an infectious blend of Angolan-influenced music inspired by western techno that was made for suburban teenagers to go crazy to. And boy, do they ever.

Buraka join up with pop sensation MIA and Angolan originators DJ Znobia, Puto Prata, and Saborosa, to bring you the 'Sound of Kuduro', the first single from their debut album 'Black Diamond'. It has become a huge underground smash and is set to filter into the consciousness of every party-loving being the world over. The video, recorded for 50 Euro on the streets of Angola, is already a viral sensation online, named one of Pitchfork's videos of 2008, and racking up over 2 million views to date!

"A chaotic blend of propulsive beats, boisterous chanting and rapid-fire vocals"
- The Observer

A heavyweight line-up of remixers makes for the bloggers' dream package. Buraka's Lil' John ups the ante on his own remix, whilst Drop the Lime adds a devilish buzz-saw bassline, and DJ Mehdi's pianos don't prevent his mix living up to its 'Sound of Terror' title.
