Sunday, December 1. 2002Press Release: FABRICLIVE. 07 - John PeelFABRICLIVE. 07 Artwork “I was amazed and very, very scared to be playing Fabric and it was just fantastic. It was much better than the gigs I used to do in the sixties and seventies or eighties. A couple of times I had to be escorted back to my car by a phalanx of policeman and on one occasion, in Silith near Carlisle, I had to be escorted to the county border, to a hotel, because I’d gone down so badly. So Fabric was amazing, fantastic. It was as great a night as I’ve had in my life and people will say ‘oh, he would say that wouldn’t he’, but it actually was. The fact that people were singing ‘Teenage Kicks’ eight minutes after I’d finished was unforgettable.”
John has collected countless awards and many honorary degrees. He lives in Suffolk with his wife, Sheila, and broadcasts regularly from his home ‘Peel Acres. His long-time friend and producer John Walters (who sadly passed away last year) regarded him as “the single most important figure in popular music of the last 25 years.” Together they made some of the most ground-breaking radio of an era. “This CD isn’t supposed to be mood-establishing. If anything, it's mood-demolishing. These are some of my favourite songs... there's a real risk I'll listen to nothing else ever again.” Tracklisting 01 - Intro (followed by Asa-Chang & Junray etc) - Hana - The Leaf Label Ltd [Also featuring BBC Commentary 1981 European Cup Final – Liverpool v Real Madrid] – BBC Music 02 - The Soledad Brothers - Break Em On Down - Estrus 03 - Don Carlos - Late Night Blues - RAS 04 - MC Det - Hipsteppin - Times Two 05 - The Velvellettes - Needle In A Haystack - Universal 06 - Bad Livers - Lust For Life - Mark Rubin 07 - Troublefunk - Lets Get Small - Universal 08 - The Capris - Theres A Moon Out Tonight - Sony 09 - The Fall - Mr Pharmacist - Beggars Banquet 10 - Smith And Selway - 15:5 Remake - Tronic 11 - Jimmy Reed - Too Much - Charly 12 - Maloko - In The Midnight Hour - London 13 - Derrick Morgan - Moon Hop - Rounder 14 - The Datsuns - In Love - V2 15 - The Kingswoods - Purty Vacant - Kingswoods 16 - Synthetix - Liar - TOV 17 - Culture - Lion Rock (Peel Session) - Cultural Foundation 18 - Act 1 - Tom The Peeper - Polydor [Also featuring BBC Commentary 1978 European Cup Final – Liverpool v FC Bruges] – BBC Music 19 - Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart - Factory 20 - Elementz Of Noise - Clock - Emotif 21 - Cheviot Ranchers - Corn Rigs Tunes - Topic 22 - Marc Smith Vs.
