Innovative Bristol duo Kahn & Neek step up for FABRICLIVE 90 - a 74 minute refined grinding grime and dubstep mix that introduces 14 unreleased tracks exclusive to this release. Immersed in the city's soundsystem culture, Kahn & Neek first joined forces around 2006 throwing underground parties with friends playing grime, dubstep and reggae. After honing their craft as DJs and moving into production, Kahn & Neek have released - together and individually - on Warp Records, Tectonic, Deep Medi Musik, Punch Drunk, Hotline Recordings, Idle Hands and their own Bandulu label. Whether working solo, together (they also craft soundsystem steppers under the Gorgon Sound moniker), or collaborating with Young Echo collective, a dark, stripped-down weight pervades the atmosphere of everything they do.
"It took around six months to get all the material together for the mix, including exclusive tracks from artists we have become good friends with over the years. Certainly including music from artists like Jabu, chester giles, Rider Shafique and ManonMars (who are all part of the Young Echo collective, as we are) has allowed us to craft the mix into a richer offering as it gives us an opportunity to showcase music from other projects we’re involved in outside of Kahn & Neek." Kahn & Neek
The mix, recorded at Kahn’s house in Bristol, includes a number of their own productions, collaborations and remixes; heavyweight selections from The Bug, Mungo’s Hi-Fi, Commodo and Gantz; music from Young Echo collective artists Jabu, Chester Giles, Rider Shafique, ManonMars and Ishan Sound; and exclusives by Boofy, Hi5Ghost, Gemmy and Lamont. Certain sections stick to a traditional DJ mix but it also moves outside of what they usually play in a club setting. It concludes with Kode9 & The Spaceape’s timeless version of ‘Ghost Town’, an appropriate commentary on the current troubles faced by the capital's nightlife.
