Caspa

What a 12-months its been for Caspa. It was almost a year to the day when we first announced his debut album through fabric, the LP that took him from the underground hero he was to the household name he is today. Although we say that, but Caspa never left the underground, in fact he's managed to successfully stay true to his original fanbase by never changing his approach, style or sound, it's just everyone else in the world is a lot more interested than they used to be.

In the UK in 2010, you can safely say that anyone with an interest in popular music between the ages of 16-25 will know what dubstep is - it's everywhere. Sometimes things just fall into place and for Caspa, what started out as him going to UK Garage and Drum'n'Bass nights, dancing to new sounds and being inspired by the DJs has now evolved into him travelling the World as a global star.

"It used to be all about the UK and it was strictly tiny venues, back rooms, we were always the names at the bottom of the posters in almost unreadable small writing. Things are different now though, last year I played all over America, Japan, New Zealand, Italy, Holland everywhere! I think the only continents I didn't DJ in were Africa and Antarctica!"

The reason why the wider world has suddenly fallen for the dark, bass-fueled, off-kilter rhythms of dubstep is uncertain, but it has and Caspa is regarded as one of the biggest names in the scene. His debut album 'Everybody's Talking, Nobody's Listening!' was released in May 2009 to global acclaim, his ongoing touring schedule makes you feel tired just looking at it and his Dub Police club night at fabric (the club's only dubstep residency) is the most successful and in demand night in their calendar. In the last year he's also won fans for his in-demand remix work, taking on the task of mixing Depeche Mode, Deadmau5, Miike Snow, Breakage and Adam F as well as bringing through exciting new talents like Emalkay and The Others on his own labels... Like we said, it's been quite a year for the man.

Now in 2010, Caspa shows no sign of letting up. One thing is for sure though, he plans to get back in the studio, "Last year was great but I was DJing so much that it was hard to find the time to make new music and I had to almost limit myself to remixes, which I want to change this year." Although with two tours of America scheduled between now and April, don't expect things to change too radically.

On this, his first release of the year, Caspa brings us 'I Beat My Robot' and a new jump-up-and-go-nuts Drum'n'Bass mix of 'Marmite' by Original Sin. With both tracks suited strictly for a peak-time dancefloor you're unlikely to hear these outside of the rave (and Radio 1), but rest assured these will blow the roof off any party.
