A Quick Chat With S.P.Y.

Brazilian drum & bass producer S.P.Y. has been a little bit quiet of late, intentionally locked up in a studio somewhere working on his second album for Hospital Records. With a very welcome DJ set coming up here in Room Two at Metalheadz this Friday night we thought we’d catch up with the producer and see if we could ascertain any pertinent information regard his new recordings… We’ve not seen you for a little while… what have you been up to? I’ve just recently got back into the studio after touring my first album. I was touring for about eight months playing shows all around the world; it was pretty crazy. One especially memorable tour I took 24 flights in 27 days! But now that I’m settled back in the UK I’m really focusing on getting back to producing. You recently signed to Hospital Records. Are you excited about the project? I signed to Hospital Records at the start of last year and since then it’s been a great experience. The label really supports me and gives me a lot of freedom to produce and DJ and I’ve also had the opportunity to play at some amazing international festivals. Hospital is like family to me so I’m definitely excited to continue working with them. When do you think we’ll be able to hear your next album? What can we expect from it? My second album is due for release on Hospital Records next year, I’ve been working on it for a while now and I’m pretty happy with it! The album will stay true to the underground sound, but with a mix of dark and musical tracks. Is there anyone new that you'd recommend people to check out in the world of d&b? There are a lot of talented upcoming producers in the drum and bass scene but I always try to support my fellow Brazilians. The scene in Brazil is still growing and these guys are really keeping the sound alive. Check out; Unreal, Level 2, Cable, BTK, Critycal Dub, Nitri and Andrezz. What else have you got coming up? I have quite a few gigs coming up in the UK and Europe and I’m really looking forward to playing at Sun and Bass in September! Other than that I’ll be working hard in the studio and getting ready for the release of my second album.
