With his Hessle Audio label’s second full club takeover just a couple of weeks away we’ve fully been able to binge on Ben UFO of late. With his recent RBMA lecture, yesterday's CRACK Magazine cover feature and Ben's archived sets from ZeeZout (B2B with Joy Orbison) and Tim Sweeney’s legendary Beats In Space show there's been a wealth of his output popping up online; but it's always something we welcome. If you’ve followed his career to date you’ll know that his considered approach and technical skills have already earned him some serious stripes as a DJ already, but his insight into his art form remains a pretty damn vital and considered one.
That’s why we take his sets so seriously. And that’s also why we invited him to play on the Sunday leg of our recent 15th Birthday Weekend celebrations where he played to a captive Room One as the evening drew into night proper. We’ve been tuned into Ben from his very first appearances in Room Three, so seeing him detonate a braying and faithful birthday dancefloor is a memory that won’t leave us anytime soon and we’re actually ecstatic to be able to now share a document of that very experience with you.
Yep, ahead of his appearance on Friday 5th December, Ben’s agreed for us to archive his 135 minute set. He was playing after 5 hours of Ame and Dixon and before a particularly powerful live set from Mathew Jonson so its testament to his style that he managed to bridge the void between those two sets in his own precise way whilst also contextualizing old favourites from people like Lil Silva and M-Dubs.
