Audio: Warrior One - FABRICLIVE Promo Mix

Hailing from the two defining poles of London – East and West – Warrior One are two producers who’ve come to the game from opposing standpoints. One a seasoned producer the other a seasoned DJ it was only when they combined their respective production prowess and boundless enthusiasm that Carl and Eno hit upon something special. Treading the UK dub house void with remixes for people like Bonobo and Foamo they released a debut EP Bad Like Jimmy Cliff on their own King Pigeon imprint which featured the vocal stylings of Lady Chann on ‘King Riddim.’ Ahead of their performance down here on Friday, they’ve put together a promo mix that acts like a guide to their sonic make up especially for you. So press play, turn it up and read on to learn more about the production duo who take their name from a master yoga pose dedicated to Virabhadra, the name given to a fierce warrior incarnation of Shiva, who had a thousand heads, a thousand eyes, and a thousand feet; wielding a thousand clubs whilst wearing a tiger's skin. Download: Warrior One - FABRICLIVE Promo Mix (Tracklist after the jump) Can we start by giving us the low down on yourselves? We are Warrior One. We release music on our own King Pigeon Records and on Dre Skull's New York label Mixpak. We like house music and wedging jungle sounds into it. What have been the main tracks that have got Warrior One crowds bump-and-grinding in 2010? Big question! This year we've been playing more peak time sets I guess, so anything from the likes of R1 Ryders, Manare, Mele and Rack And Ruin have been staple set winners. Our remixes of Dreadzone and Lee Mortimer have been going down pretty well recently. And for the harder floors, Guerilla Speakerz 'Kingdom Come' and 'Tell Yo Mama' (last track on the mix) have been particularly messing up rooms all over the place! Tell us about the mix you’ve made for us. You’ve glided through a fair few styles on it… The mix is just a quick snapshot of tunes that are doing it right now, some brand new, some not so... Was very pleased to have been sent the opening track 'Ordinary Things' by xxxy on the day I recorded the mix, so thought that might be a fitting place to start. There's some Warrior One tunes and remixes snuck in there for good measure too! What are you going to bring to Room Two next week? Can we expect some Caribbean heaters to warm up our frost-bitten feet? It's my first time in Room 2 - Very excited! Winter tends to be the time for deeper vibes, but I suppose anything can happen on the night... Definitely not ruling out a few tropical warmers though! What attracts you about working with vocalists? I'm really into having furious bars over 130bpm plus music - It's very exciting and works better on more immediate, smaller dancefloors. As for actually working with vocalists, we usually go to Rhys (YesKing) Studio and have such a laugh, it makes the process of making music less isolated - it's good to work both ways I think. Can we expect some instrumental only releases in 2011? What have you got planned production wise for the New Year? I think so. It's been something in the pipeline for a while, just a straight-up, heads-down dancefloor release. We're just getting the King Pigeon release schedule together for next year, so watch this space. What is your formula for putting the WO stamp on remixes? Turn the drums up in the mix and use as little of the original as possible! ;) What do you both want for Christmas and what producer do you think deserves an especially bulging stocking this year? Thanks fabric, please fix it for me to have a dedicated studio and not just a desk in my room. I would like to leave the house to make tunes and come back to a clutter free, wireless bedroom! And a car, I would really like a new car! I think Doc Daneeka deserves an extra big Christmas present for being an awesome producer and a thoroughly nice bloke - he gave us two remixes when we only asked for one, and rescued us from Glastonbury after we missed the last coach off the site!
