Raresh (fabric 78)
BORN:
I was born in Bacau, Romania and lived there until I moved to Bucharest in 2004.
FAMILY:
Neither of my parents had any musical education or musical affinities. My mother worked as a statistician and my father in the army. They always listened to the radio, and that music was the soundtrack of our house almost every day.
MUSICAL ROOTS:
My cousin used to come from Bucharest to Bacau every summer, and one time he brought me a double cassette player together with some of the music of the time... I was immediately hooked and started to enjoy music even more. I started listening to international and Romanian hip-hop, some rock and for sure pop, with the whole Michael Jackson culture. I was a big fan of The Prodigy and I had all their albums, but the one which blew my mind was ‘The Fat Of The Land’.
"I made the mix at home with 2 CD players and turntables and everything came very naturally. For me is not so easy to make a mix at home without any crowd, but I imagined myself in full packed Room 1... I was a bit nervous but this added a bit of spice in the mix!" - Raresh
FIRST PROJECTS:
The desire to listen more and more led me to make friends who shared the same tastes. Soon I became the resident DJ in a disco and later in a ‘house music all night long’ venue (which was quite a rare place in Romania in the early 00s) called Zebra Club, where I still go back to play every year. It was there where I met the Sunrise crew and my dear friends Rhadoo and Pedro. Shortly afterwards we founded Arpiar label in 2007 which just felt a very natural thing to do…
FABRIC:
It’s a wonderful place to play and enjoy the music with the people. I remember reading about this magic sound system that fabric has! I couldn’t imagine myself playing there... The first time came in 2008 with Rhadoo and Craig Richards and since then I come back to play twice a year.
THE MIX:
I made the mix at home with 2 CD players and turntables and everything came very naturally. For me is not so easy to make a mix at home without any crowd, but I imagined myself in full packed Room 1... I was a bit nervous but this added a bit of spice in the mix!
THE FUTURE:
I don’t have my crystal ball with me but I see myself doing what I love, and that is playing and making music...
