Catching Up With..Jennifer Cardini + Her Get The Curse Podcast

After an eight year Correspondant residency at Rex Club in Paris, Jennifer Cardini wanted something she could hold on to for all the legendary parties, special guests and friends she met along the way. Starting the Correspondant label last year, Jennifer has made a home for wild hearts like Clement Mayer, Roman Fluegel, Abe Duque and more. Churning out slow, deep, dirty twisted Parisian music, we’re looking forward to experiencing the Correspondant connection this Saturday in Room Two. Stay tuned as we speak to lovely label boss Jennifer to get the story so far and her brand new Get The Curse Podcast is an easy escape from your daily duties today. Hi Jennifer, where are we speaking to you from today? Are you having a good day so far? Right now I'm sitting in the backstage of Peachoo and Krejberg's fashion show in Paris. This year the show takes place in the beautiful old building of Les Beaux Arts close to La Seine. I'm a bit stressed because as always it's a lot of waiting for a very short and intense moment and the show is never more than 10 minutes and everything needs to be perfect. This year the soundtrack I made features Andy Scott and Monolake to name a few! "Correspondant" has been your residency at Rex Club Paris for over 8 years. What was behind the decision to turn it into a label? I wanted something to last from it and from all those moments and all the nice talented people I met and invited. The fact that I moved to Germany but also made some radical changes in my life gave me more time and more serenely to work on another project that I always had in the back of my mind. What are some of the biggest lessons you’ve learnt so far as the boss of Correspondant compared to being a long running family member of Kompakt? Diplomacy but I just started so I guess there is more to come. Tell us about what’s in store for the Correspondant Room Two takeover with Abe Duque (live), Clement Meyer and Tomas More next month? Some slow, deep, dirty, twisted Parisian stuff. From Clement,Tomas and me ... Even though they are younger than me we all spent a lot of Thursdays in the same club : Le Pulp listening to our friends and family members : Chloe, Ivan Smagghe, Andrew Weatherall, Optimo. That's our connection. From Abe well I guess: acid ! We just played Rex last week and his live set was amazing. Tell us a collection of your most memorable Correspondant moments so far? Be it Rex parties, first releases or even things going wrong when you least expect it? Last weekend in Bordeaux we closed the club at 6 am keeping only a few friends and the crew and I played disco and old classics until 8! Cormac and me playing back to back closing Rex club was a very sweet moment as well. Tell us about the Enola Slowmotion EP feat a remix from your label partner Nhar? It got really great feedback from England after I put it on my podcast for Inverted Audio. I' m a big fan of Enola since the Mango EP on Initial Cut. We have some more coming from him soon on the label. Nhar is killing it at the moment. He is on fire and the remix is so beautiful! What other releases and remixes are coming up from the label that we should be looking out for? Offset is the next one. Slow and dark. Next to follow are the hacker, pulp disco outcast and the coma boys. All these EPs will have remixes done of course but I can't tell more now. Finally, who’s DJ sets have you seen that you truly admire of late? Ivan of course and Clement Mayer, Fluegel and I really enjoyed the DJ of Permanent Vacation at Correspondant last year.
