Catching Up With Mampi Swift & His FABRICLIVE Promo Mix

Having been a influential name on the drum & bass and jungle circuit since the early ‘90s, Mampi Swift might have dropped off flyers and the lips of commentators for a little bit over the last few years, but he returned to the scene earlier this month with his new album, History, in spectacular style. Refocused and re-energized he’s making an appearance in Room One for Playaz at the end of this month so we quickly caught up with him to better frame this promo mix (which finds Swift in fine trademark form, commanding the types of chunky breaks in a style all of his own). Download: Mampi Swift – FABRICLIVE Promo Mix There’s only one burning question really, what made you hang up your headphones for a little bit before? Sometimes in life we all go though tough times and unfortunately many situations got the better of me, coinciding with working with people that didn't handle my affairs properly. Where they should've been assisting me they were doing more damage to my career… but regardless of any bad situations having some time out was actually the best thing I could have done. So what made you want to come back? Was it just the music drawing you back in? It had nothing to do with the music. The music wasn't inspiring; it’s the people that come out week in week out! This one single guy I saw out once broke down exactly what I meant to him and explained the impact I'd made on his life for many years and what impact I’d made on the scene bearing in mind where the whole double drop thing came from. What he didn't know when I left that night was how much he affected me and made an impact on my life! Are you back on the Charge Recordings tip in 2013? It's all about History, my new album and my best work to date which is coming out on my new label, M-S-R (Mampi Swift Recordings). What’s next for you? Having passion, drive and joy for everything in my life!!! Tell us a little bit about the mix you’ve made for us? It's a bit of what I'm playing out in the clubs at the moment and it kicks off with the biggest track of 2012, ‘Gangster’. I hope everyone enjoys it, it's a very small taste of what's coming… Catch Mampi Swift in Room One at Playaz on Friday 22nd February. There's also an extensive interview with Swift on Uncle Dugs' Rinse FM show back in January that covers pretty much the entirety of his career. Well worth it for the enthusiasts...
