The Romanian born Cosmin TRG’s recent ‘Simulat’ album made good on a promise he made to us when we spoke to him back in August of last year. At that point he was diversifying his sound a little, palpably going more 4x4 and making some of the crunchiest technoid rumbles of his career to date.
“I was doing 4x4 stuff even before my first 12" came out on Hessle,” Cosmin told us. “It was pretty formulaic though. I kept working on it in the background and over the last couple of years I became more and more into it. More so than my dubstep/garage, I just became less and less enthusiastic about that sound and couldn't really vibe with it anymore. It had nothing to do with the genres per se, just my compulsion to diversify and look for something new.”
That something new is encapsulated with his new work...
Since his releases on imprints like Hessle Audio and Rush Hour paved the way for this ruggedly streamlined scruffy house music he’s revelled in the possibilities releasing a couple of 12”s on Modeselektor’s 50 Weapons imprint as a prelude to the album. Playing in Room Two alongside Shackleton and Boddika on Saturday he’s given us three copies of his album on CD to give away in anticipation.
To grab one as a prize, just email us with ‘I Need Some Cosmin In My Life’ as the subject header by Friday evening.
