It may have been a long time since he graced Farringdon, but Finnish producer Tes La Rok has never been far from earshot. His Noppa label has released sterling 12”s from fellow countrymen Desto and Teeth, proving that his unique sense of taste is still firing on all cylinders and it’s also the proud home to his debut album proper, ‘Them,’ which just came out last month. Long a lynchpin of the dubstep society in his native country, La Rok runs a bi-monthly party called Slam It which has been running for 6 years and broadcasts a radio show on Basso radio, we’re welcoming him back to the UK at Sin City’s debut Room Two takeover this Friday.
In conversation with Kmag recently La Rok discussed his album, saying: “I'm totally [of the] X-Files generation and it's funny you mention Bladerunner as that was kinda the theme I was really aiming for. From artwork to music. I love all these secret government plan theories, conspiracy theories movies and books, but it's just an imaginary world I'm playing with on my album; I don't really see humankind's future as that dark! ‘Them’ refers to anything you think it should refer to. It could refer to governments, it could refer to extraterrestrial lifeforms; it could refer to secret groups of government officials. You tell me...”
