Matrix & Futurebound's Top 10 Tracks Sampled For D&B Classics

Long time players in the game of bass and drum music, Matrix & Futurebound's back catalogue boasts a whole cornucopia of d&b jams - including four consecutive UK top 40 hits. Lately they've even further demonstrated their forthright ability to produce anthem status gems, dropping the incendiary 'Glow Worm' earlier this year. Set to be released on Viper Recordings later this month, the record has already been championed by the scene's elite, with DJ Friction casting it as his "Friction Fire" on his BBC Radio 1 show.

Set to join the Viper clan here in Room Two next month (5th June), the lads have delved through an array of music to pick out the tracks that they feel have been sampled the best, by themselves and their fellow scene leading d&b connoisseurs.

Sub Focus- X Ray (sampling Nirvana - Breed)

Matrix & Futurebound: This is the track that really put Sub Focus on the map. The metal guitar sample form Nirvana provides the backbone for a trademark Sub Focus synth hook that gets straight into your brain with production that smashes it every time.

Matrix and Futurebound - American Beauty (sampling Thomas Newman - Plastic Bag Theme)

Sigma - Nobody To Love (sampling Kanye West - Bound 2)

Sigma took the intro to Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2’ and transformed it into a crossover d&b monster anthem. Even Kanye West would have to admit in his private thoughts that it’s bigger than the original.

DJ Zinc - Ready Or Not (sampling The Fugees - Ready Or Not)

An old school classic which got absolutely rinsed at the time. Let’s be honest, you can’t really go wrong sampling a Lauryn Hill vocal.

Matrix - Apache (sampling The Incredible Bongo Band - Apache)

The original 'Apache' has some of the best drumming ever put on a record and it’s been sampled by many. This is the Matrix take on the classic break, keeping it all about the rolling drums and the bass - exactly as it should be.

Chase & Status - Hypest Hype (sampling The Doors - Been Down So Long)

Sampling one of the greatest bands ever, Chase & Status's team deserve a medal just for the sample clearance alone.

Adam F - Circles (sampling Bob James - Westchester Lady (bassline & flute) and Blackstreet - Physical Thing (vocal))

This will go down as one of the greatest electronic dance tracks ever. Sampling Bob James & Blackstreet, Adam's fusion of 'jazz & bass' was a breath of fresh air. A classic!

Brookes Brothers - Tear You Down (sampling Gladys Knight & The Pips - If I Were Your Woman)

The track that put the Brookes Brothers firmly on the map, sampling the chorus from Gladys Knight & The Pips makes this a sing-along classic.

Dillinja - Silverblade (sampling Vangelis - Blade Runner Blues)

It's more than fair to say Vangelis' Blade Runner soundtrack has been rinsed by drum & bass producers over the years, but no one has used it to the effect of Dilli's 'Silver Blade'. A futuristic slice of d&b that'll slay any dancefloor in it's way.

Roni Size - It's A Jazz Thing - (sampling Lonnie Liston Smith - Shadows)

Roni size brought the Jazz sound to drum & bass in exquisite fashion and created a sub genre seemingly overnight with this little number.
