Crate Diggin': Mele and Brenmar

With a childhood soundtracked by 90’s hip-hop cuts – something that is evidently clear whilst taking in his latest release on Mixpak Records – 18 year old Mele, known to the authorities as Krissy Peers, has deftly established himself among current UK producers and DJs. With an offbeat approach to sound design, Mele has carved out a niche sound, baring an ethereal quality that almost defies description. The young Liverpudlian joins US peer, Brenmar on the Visions tour this year, kicking off its European leg in our Room Three. Bill Salas, better known as Brenmar, currently resides in Brooklyn – however it’s evidently clear the Chicago-born producer sticks to his native roots. His recent release on Ikonika and Optium’s Hum + Buzz, entitled ‘Let’s Pretend’ – a chuggy R&B/juke cut backed with a Mike Q remix – earned the DJ a due amount of recognition over here in London. The pair – alongside tour-mate, Dillion Francis – join the launch of Brodinski’s FABRICLIVE release here, this November 18th. We caught up with Mele and Brenmar, for a quick chat and look back on some of their favourite tunes. Mele: Tell us about the first vinyl you ever bought... It was Method Man and Busta Rhymes 'What's Happening' in like 2003/2004 I think? My mum went halves with me for it. What’s your favourite record shop? Up North, 3beat just for for Scouse House. Banquet Records in Kingston is pretty dope too! What was the last tune you listened to? DJ Marsta 'Standard'. A classic from 2002.
