NAPT are the boys of the moment. In a time where genres are constantly chopping and changing the N-Funk sound has risen to the top, raising the banner for NAPT’s kaleidoscopic and unique breakbeat. With the likes of house supremo Miles Dyson, cool kids favourite Kissy Sell Out, UK grime ambassador DJ Cameo to breaks stalwarts the Plump DJ’s and Rennie Pilgrim the N-Funk records continue to have a permanent home in many a DJ’s box.
After their debut release ‘Raygun In The Jungle’ back in 2005, Ashley Pope and Tomek Nadens have continued to release a healthy serving of ear enticing breaks culminating in the release of ‘N-Funk Pt.1’ on Funkatech in 2008. Receiving snowballing praise for this and the accompanying singles including ‘Gotta Have More Cowbell’ (which spent 5 weeks at the top spot on Beatport’s breakbeat chart and became the second highest selling breaks track in that year beaten only by the duo’s remix of Slydes ‘Frequency’ on Finger Lickin), saw the duo nominated for the Best Producer award at Breakspoll ‘08.
By the start of 2009, NAPT were climbing high and in the face of stiff competition from the likes of breakbeat’s legends Plump DJ's, Stanton Warriors, Evil Nine and Deekline & Wizard the NAPT production team’s adulation of the breakbeat community was once again confirmed, as they scooped the gongs for Best Track, Best Remix and for the 2nd year running Best Producer at that year’s Breakspoll event and the award for the Best Breaks Track at Beatport’s Music Awards.
We welcome back the boys to Room One this Friday for Headthrash and as a gift they’ve put together an exclusive edit of their track ‘Fortune’ which you can download or stream below.
