High Fidelity: M.A.N.D.Y's Ten Years Of Get Physical Tracks

In the midst of the birthday madness last week we gave you a very special worldwide exclusive from Get Physical head honcho's M.A.N.D.Y and the first taster of their Twisted Sister EP. Waking us up from our weekend recovery, M.A.N.D.Y have delivered something to steal our attention back for 10 Years of Get Physical next weekend where they will be celebrating a show stopping history with label tyrants DJ T., Simon Baker and Raz Ohara live in Room One. So here, for our blog Philipp Jung and Patrick Bodmer have selected one track for each year of the Get Physical decade, from the early release days of M.A.N.D.Y. & The Sunsetpeople all the way through up to Audiofly last year; the pair have split the responsibilities - each giving their own personal five to make the ten. Philip Jung's Five M.A.N.D.Y. & The Sunsetpeople - Sunsetpeople (Late Night Flight To Monza Mix) - 2002 This release means a lot to me as it's a collaboration with Patrik Dechent who founded the Monza Club in Frankfurt and then moved to Ibiza. We know each other for a long time and we had tons of fun doing music together. We are always 5 or 6 people in the studio. It was messy, but very good times. Chelonis R. Jones - I Don't Know - 2003 It was our first album artist and the innocent voice with the very heavy lyrics was striking us from the start. I love this tune and one & one so much. For me they are real classics. You still can play to anyone and everywhere. Great Guy. Lopazz - Migracion (Ricardo Villalobos) - 2004 Lopazz was with us from pretty much the start too. We had so many fights, especially at that time, but it only made us stronger. This release was a very strong one, very understated but powerful on the floor. The b-side has a Luciano Remix. M.A.N.D.Y vs Booka Shade - Body Language - 2005 Obviously we have to have this one here. The funny story is that if you listen to it, you can't really feel that it's a 130bpm peace. We started this song in a techno direction, so it's really fast but actually you wouldn't tell. And it count's in so many different arts. Simplicity, well done and dosed, is the key. Djuma Soundsystem - Les Djinns (Trentemöller remix) - 2006 This record was already signed to a big label at the time. But I was chasing them so much that I managed to get it at the end. Still one of my faves. It's very mellow and soft, but it just makes you smile and happy. What else do you need from music most of the time? Patric Bodmber's Five Heidi & Riton - "To The Gum"- 2007 I met Heidi in London at Phonica record store 8 years ago. She is such a sweetheart. You could just fall in love with her after one second and that’s what I did! I invited her to play with us at Bar 25, that was sometime around 2005. Since then we’ve shared wonderful moments of friendship together. Still it took me 2 years to convince her to produce the first "Heidi" record. I was really pushing her a lot. Together with Riton she did "Vejer" and then this amazing Chicago acid tune here. To me this record is 100% Heidi. I love it. But after this one - Heidi stopped producing and confessed not to be a producer but "only" a DJ. What means - she is obviously an amazing DJ. SIOPIS - "Penne From The Lane" - 2008 This is a story about a long-term friendship as well, one that started with house music. When I met Jannis aka Siopis the first time, he was already well known as "DJ Silversurfer" with releases on Crosstown Rebels. "Welcome to Berlin" was a blueprint record for "the sound of Berlin" at that time. A real hymn. I became a big fan of him when I saw him Djing (and I am even more a fan of him today). I was really hunting Jannis, and wanted to become closer. Since then, we’ve shared a thousand rave moments together. One morning - he passed me on this track. It was the first of many, many big Siopis hits for Get Physical. I am really happy to call Siopis one of my closest friends today. Damian Lazarus - "Smoke The Monster Out " LP - 2009 I got a call in 2003 from Damian, when we just released that M.A.N.D.Y. record "Tonite" (which was a Pete Tong essential tune at the time). Damian was asking me, if he could do a remix for it. Since then, slowly we came closer and closer. He started his own label and did his first parties in Berlin, where we went for record shopping together. And so, one day - we were really lucky - Damian asked us to release his first artist album. It is an incredible, timeless long player, filled with an infinite amount of ideas from all kind of music history references together with his very own vision of sophisticated techno club culture. His lyrics, singing and the science fiction production make this record a monument. DJ Hell - "Body Language DJ Mix" - 2010 I am so proud that DJ Hell did a DJ mix for us. My personal Techno hero. But I still piss my pants when I remember the discussions about the artwork on this CD! When I asked him to do a Body language Mix, we were close and connected, we liked each other and I thought, I could talk straight to him about the cover artwork. I learned my lesson and figured out that Helmuth truly is a complete artist - there was no chance for even the smallest of compromise. It was "take it - or leave it." After all - I am really happy about that clear vision and some other learning's. Audiofly - "Follow My Liebe" - 2011 Many, many years ago we met on the streets of Miami, just saying "hello" in Southbeach. Today we share a million stories together - one or two really weird ones - but most of them bright and shining. Luca & Anthony should be the showmasters in a Techno TV channel, primetime and this longplayer should be the soundtrack. Knowledge, science, a childish attitude in the best way and a great sense of humour guaranteed.LIEBE! 2012 …is still on. I will be back with my favourite at the end of the year.
