In the Bag: Jay Daniel guides us through one of his DJ sets

Jay Daniel is one of Detroit’s most promising stars. In recent years he’s become known for producing sultry deep house that show a disposition for modern hip-hop, something that can be heard on records like his Tala album from earlier on this year and his debut release with the sound’s certified pioneer, Theo Parrish. But as a DJ, his style is less discernible, taking in anything from abstract electronica to hazy house and techno. Before he joins Virgil Abloh and more at Forms this Friday, he picked out a list of fresh cuts to take us step-by-step through a typical night with him behind the decks.

Shawn Mendes – Where Were You In The Morning (Kaytranada Remix) [Island]

I don't remember how I came across this, but it's pretty cool. I'd play this early on depending on the vibe.

Flying Lotus – Takashi [Warp]

This is dope too, it's the first single from his next album. I'd play this towards the end of my set.

Peggy Gou – Itgehane (Jay Daniel Remix) [Ninja Tune]

I'd play this in the operation room while my first child is being born! Just kidding, I probably would as things start to build in my set.

Waajeed – I Ain’t Safe feat. Ideeyah [Dirt Tech Reck]

My favourite track off Waajeed's latest album, From the Dirt. I'd play this mid-way into the night.

Delroy Edwards – Wagon Wheels [L.I.E.S.]

Dope. A late night weapon.
