Most Wanted: Etherwood Dreams Of A Mobile VW Studio

Our latest Most Wanted feature is penned by Med School signing, Etherwood - an artist known for his achingly beautiful beats and heartfelt melodies. Forging a sound that seems able to adsorb the multifarious elements around him, the London based artist is one of the leading forces behind the label's forward looking aesthetic having released his stunning debut album via the Hospital Records' off shoot back in 2013, Then, of course, there's his latest release, a captivating, summertime roller entitled 'Souvenirs'. Set to join esteemed talents like Icicle and Stray in Room Two this Friday (12th June) it's quite apt that Etherwood would look to his lauded meticulous approach to production as the inspiration for his piece...  Etherwood: Since I was a youngster there's only really one thing I've ever dreamt of owning, or rather building. Some friends of mine had one of those ace old hippie Volkswagen campers that they used to take across Europe. I always thought 'imagine how boss it would be to have a studio in the back of that thing...!' So, in my head, I'd hollow the whole van out and have a narrow desk with a Mac and a couple of half decent monitors, with a nice keyboard on it and a guitar. I'd keep it simple enough. The dream for me was packing up and driving across the world and pulling over when and wherever I felt inspired, sampling as much of the noises around me as possible. It's quite a common dream amongst a lot of producers I'm sure. Nature plays a huge part in my music and sometimes it's tricky to capture the mood in a London flat at 3:30pm on a Monday afternoon. I'd keep the windows of the van open the whole time for that natural ambience and make an album influenced by the travels. A bit like an audio diary. It would be ace to hear how it turned out. I'm sure the reality of it would be more like creeping along a motorway hard shoulder, listening to the same cassette on loop, sweating out all over the leather seats, lonely and miserable in a van with barely enough juice to get the thing from Brixton to Camberwell, but a boy can dream right? Right?
