This Sunday, people around the world will gather to celebrate International Women’s Day. Above all else, it’s an opportunity to shine a light on the women in our lives, who enrich our society and make us stronger.
For us, it’s a chance to celebrate the talented women who make our industry what it is – those who showcase their craft behind the decks every weekend, as well as the hard-working faces who keep the cogs turning behind the scenes.
fabric is a place where women excel – without them, we wouldn’t have a club. But while we’re proud of the role women play in what we do, there is still room for improvement. In spite of significant progress in recent years, the music industry still presents many barriers to women and other marginalised groups, and work needs to be done to address the imbalance.
In the lead-up to International Women’s Day 2020, we’ll be spending the week hearing from some of the women in our team at fabric, sharing their thoughts on what IWD means, and what it’s like being a woman in music.
We hope that by celebrating #WomenInMusic, we’ll highlight some of the issues facing women in our industry, and show our ongoing support for the women who make us who we are. Keep an eye on our website and social channels for this and more coverage on #IWD over the next few days.
