It’s a family affair to kick off our 2020 Saturday night programme as two generations of the club go head-to-head. Terry Francis has been at the core of our musical identity since 1999, and as one of the pioneers of the tech house genre, he was a pivotal figure in shaping London’s late 90s underground scene. Through his Wiggle party and label he championed a new style of four-to-the-floor that fused swinging house grooves with hints of punchy techno, laying the foundations for a blueprint sound that many other producers would draw inspiration from. He’s remained at the heart of our sound world since those formative years, regularly guiding the night with his collection of bouncy house cuts. While the distinctive style Francis created endures on today’s club circuit, recently many fans and DJs alike have been revisiting his classic back catalogue in pursuit of the original tech house sound. Our founding resident is joined by one of our more recent recruits, Anna Wall. The London DJ is the perfect complement to Francis. Wall’s record bag traces the history of house from the early 90s through to present day, drawing from labels like Swag and Wiggle via more modern techno and electro. Like Francis, her sound is unmistakably tied to the capital, and she’s one of a few artists who’s set to steer our future. The bill is rounded off by another local favourite best known for her deep, dubby take on house, Find Your Own Records founder Ceri.
