Feed Your Stereo: Kenny Larkin Recorded Live at Watergate, Berlin 02.03.2013

One of the biggest questions being addressed in Kevin Saunderson’s Curators of Techno tour is ‘how do the artists of 20 years ago maintain their relevance today and tomorrow?’ This recently recorded DJ set from Kenny Larkin, one of the artists who’s part of the tour’s stop in Farringdon next Saturday, serves as an answer to exactly that issue. There are references to the sound that helped the Motor City come to such prominence, reaching far into Detroit’s early output but Larkin still brings it up to more contemporary times and it’s this depth of character that’s helped him remain so relevant. Larkin’s own production has kept facing forward too. His mid-90s albums for Warp and R&S set him up in a world more associated with electronics and experimentalism but he managed to win over the house heads with his 2008 album for Carl Craig’s lauded Planet E label with is off kilter interpretation of the beat. We’d strongly recommend you take time to listen back and compare the subtleties of his incredible back catalogue for yourselves right after you stream this DJ set that was recorded at Watergate last month anticipation of Room Two next Saturday when the full Curators of Techno experience lands in Farringdon.
