Fred Everything Five Years Lazy Days (+ Kruse & Nuernberg X fabric mix)

LazyDays For five fabulous years, Fred Everything’s Lazy Days has been home to legendary house music artists such as Ian Pooley, Crazy P, Brett Johnson, Trentemoller, Kruse & Nuernberg and of course, Mr Everything himself. With a professional and passionate attitude, Fred overlooks every little aspect of production of each Lazy Day release, doing what feels right at the time and at the same time, presenting a vision for the next ten years. With the ear-busting ‘Five Years of Lazy Days’ mix CD out earlier this year, as well as the brand-new Lazy Days sub-label, Fred's full-length album due for 2012 and a super-fresh Lazy Days Podcast 21 out now - we wasted no time in talking to Fred Everything about the labels past, present and future ahead of this Saturdays Room Three takeover. Giving you a double dose of Lazy Days love, we also have a very special mix from Hamburg’s hot property, Kruse & Nuernberg, who dropped the impeccable ‘Sliced & Chopped EP’ on Lazy Days earlier this year. Stitching together a triumphant tracklist of old and new gems from the Lazy Days catalogue, we also got the full low-down on Kruse & Nuernbergs passion for house, their favourite Lazy Days memories so far and how life has changed for the duo since joining the label. It started as a bit of a side project to release my own music, collaborations and also other people's music. The release schedule was very Lazy at first. Nowadays, it’s become more of a full time job, but its part of what I do on a daily basis along with my DJ and producer gigs. I'm still involved in overlooking every little aspect of the production of every releases including Artwork, Mastering and sometimes additional production, mixing or editing. What’s Lazy Days mission in life? To release music I'm either involved in or music I believe in. Looking at the roster of artists who have appeared on the label, it's clear that we don't have a specific style in mind but rather concentrate on music we think is good. We've had various people like Crazy P, Tortured Soul, Lovebirds, Shur-I-Kan, Brett Johnson and even Trentemoller. I come from a time where labels were more eclectic and daring, especially in the UK. Labels like Paper, Nuphonic, Classic and 20:20 Vision were the blueprint for Lazy Days. How do you see the label developing in the coming years, and what direction are you moving in musically? I'm happy of the evolution so far. I think the music is changing and we're changing with it, without losing touch of our roots and where we came from. I'm hoping to release more full lengths and compilations. I'm also going to start a sub-label soon which will focus on Deeper/Dubbier music. I want to expand and basically do whatever feels right at the time. I also want to be able to look back on my catalog and be happy about it in 5-10 years time. What have been the most meaningful releases for you? Our first release "Friday: with the Trentemoller Remix & Shur-I-Kan featuring Alexander East "Simply Yes" Tell us about the mix you did for the 5 Years anniversary CD? I chose my favorite tracks from the catalog, not necessarily the most popular one. I wanted to tell a story about the label, show people what we've been up to in the past 5 years and where we are going. There's a nice movement in the mix, especially towards the end where the tempo drops to slower territory. What’s up next for you and the label? Finishing the 5 Years world tour at the end of the year. Looking at next year's release schedule already. I also have a lot of new "Vinyl Only" releases coming out in the next few months. Mostly Edits and rare remixes I did. I also have a few remixes coming out on AtJazz Record, Urban Torque and I'm also working on my next full length album for next year. Any names coming though on the label that you’re particularly excited about? I just remixed a new track from Montreal band Bran Van 3000 that I'm releasing next. It features Freddie James on vocal. Freddie was a child star in the disco days (Everybody, Get Up and Boogie). The whole project is very special to me. The whole track sounds like being inside someone's dream. The last time I remixed this band, it was in the early 2000 with the track "Astounded" which featured the last recorded vocal from the late great Curtis Mayfield. Finally, what’s your favorite way to spend a lazy day? I do it every day, I'm a Lazy Workaholic! Seriously, I just love hanging out with my girlfriend at home in San Francisco. Enjoy the amazing food and scenery available. I also love to watch (too many) movies, read and cook. Anything I do on my free time has to somehow inspire me or bring me something new. I also like to go out once in a while to hear what other people play. KRUSE & NUERNBERG How did you first meet Fred Everything & come to join the Lazy Days family? We first met Fred on facebook. Of course we knew his productions and his label for a long time and played many of his tracks in our sets. We contacted Fred because we knew we’d made a track that was right up his alley and could fit on Lazy Days perfectly. That's what Fred was thinking right after the first listen and so we joined the family! What is it about the label that appeals to you & makes it stand out from the crowd? We both know that Fred is really picky (in a good way) when it comes to selecting music. He's been around for quite a while and knows a lot of artists and has built his profile and musical knowledge for so long. You can hear it in the releases of Lazy Days. It is not the usual stuff that hits our inbox approximately every five minutes each day. It's just quality house music. You can hear and actually see (artwork!) that Lazy Days is a very mature label putting out adult house music. That's what we like about it and of course Fred is a great guy. What’s changed for you since working with Lazy Days? On first sight we don't even know each other well - we became real friends and visited each others home. We made it to San Francisco and Fred came to Hamburg. After releasing two EPs on Lazy Days, it’s definitely a home for us. We've been searching for this relationship with a label since quite a while and you can recognise it on the diversity of labels we've been releasing on. Lazy Days is special and Fred takes his job running the label very serious - that’s why it just feels right giving beloved tracks in his hands. What are some of your favorite Lazy Days memories to date? We were lucky to spend some time with Fred in our home town Hamburg while he was on one of his European tours, as well as in his hometown San Francisco for the purpose of sightseeing, eating good food and of course hanging out in the studio together. We also have a good fan base in the city where Fred grew up and where he still plays on a regular basis, Montréal. Our release 'Sliced & Chopped' was very much to the liking of the party crowd in Montréal... almost a little too much as they forbid to play it out in the clubs in Montréal cause it got played out way too often. It's simply great to work with Lazy Days. Very profound and professional attitude towards music biz... We are really looking forward to spending the weekend with Fred & Ian in London and of course to having a great gig at fabric. Describe your passion for house music? The genre House has some very special characteristics. House music is perfect for dancing cause of the four-four time beat and it has got soul! House music itself has developed from the Disco sound of the 70's and 80's we grew up with and it’s just the right music for parties and having good fun in a club. Probably that’s why we love it so much! What Lazy Days projects have you been working on for now & the future? We released our very first EP on Lazy Days in 2010 - 'Sliced & Chopped’ and in 2011 we signed our second EP to Lazy Days together with our friend Nathalie Claude from Berlin who delivered a beautiful vocal -Silk City EP. Finally, what’s your favorite way to spend a lazy day? We are Germans - We love to be on fire all day! There aren't so many lazy days in our lives. But sometimes it’s just cool to sleep long, to hang around on the couch, ordering food or spending the whole day in bed with the lady. Tracklisting: Fred Everything & 20For7 – Friday (Crazy P.
