Introducing: Christophe and his fabric Promo Mix

Hailing from Bristol’s burgeoning hotbed of talent, Christophe is an imperative part of the house fuelled flex that swarmed across the city a few years back. He’s not only contributed to the sound through his productions, releasing on esteemed Bristol imprint, Futureboogie, but he’s helped influence the South West city’s party land with his technicolour twist of techno, disco and italo dynamics. Now slowly teasing the London circuit the rising star seems set to continue his capital encounter as he makes his Room Two debut later this month appearing alongside Terry Francis and Joris Voorn on the 26th April. So to get to know Christophe a little better before the aforementioned set, we asked him a few questions and grabbed an exclusive mix along the way. Amazing, exciting and a little bit scary! The club and guys are legends and I'm honestly chuffed to bits, I just can't wait to get up there on that killer system and play records, there's so much energy in that room, I'm definitely going to need some dutch courage. So you’re based in Bristol, was this where it all started for you? How did you begin establishing yourself as an artist? I've lived in Bristol for 20 years now, got my first residency in one of the only house nights in the city, which was really good and very popular. That's where DJing to the public started, but collecting music and putting mixes together started way back in the Valleys. I've always loved and collected music, it's a true passion and getting the opportunity to share it with people is a brilliant bonus.  From the residency I started to get noticed and booked to play, but it was getting that first record out (On Tristan De Cuhna's label Redux) that was the start of establishing myself as an artist I think.   Although previously I had met Dave & Steve from Futureboogie out and about and we got on like a house on fire, it was great, just hanging out and sharing music first, then they invited me to play at their parties. From there we all became great friends and I owe them so much, being part of the Futureboogie family is a brilliant thing for me, which I'm eternally grateful for, bless them. Everyone always talks about how dynamic Bristol is, especially as it’s such a small city. How would you describe the scene as it stands right now? I think it's because it is pretty small that makes it so dynamic because everyone knows each other. We go to a lot of the same places, this goes for people into different genres. You can definitely see cross influences in the musical output from the city and there's no real divide. I think people appreciate each other and their output and that's a very cool thing. Is there anyone coming through that you particularly rate right now? Yes lots (and please excuse me if I miss anyone) Outboxx are brilliant. People like A.Sagittariun, Arkist, Admin, Shanti Celeste. Tom Rio and Just Jack have just started a label, the BRSTL label. Of course there's also the more established people like Eats Everything, Lukas, Waifs & Strays, Behling & Simpson, Nick Harris, Marco Bernadi, Typesun, Appleblim, October, Futureboogie (of course) to name but a few. I read in your artist biography that you also design artwork and record sleeves. Is this for Futureboogie? How does this coincide with your DJing/Producing? I'm pretty much 50/50 design and music these days, I do all Futureboogie's artwork,  Is It Balearic Records and Magic Wand. More recently I'm doing stuff for Felix Dickinson's Label Cynic, Eats Everything's Edible and 2020 recordings. In the past I've designed for NRK, Honchos Music, Redux Records and lots of others I can't remember at the moment. Last year saw releases on Futureboogie and Boogiefuturo alongside Toby Tobias, do you have anything forthcoming for 2014? I've got a new release coming out on Hypercolour at the end of the month, that's really exciting. A remix for Is it Balearic Records. Lots of ideas and nearly finished stuff too so hopefully that will see the light of day soon. I'm also in a band with DJ Die called Sure Thing, it's more a boogie/disco thing. Our first single is being re released by Defected very shortly and after that we've got a four track EP to drop. And last but not at all least, can you tell us a little about the mix and what we can expect from your Room Two set come April 26th? Ok, so the mix is a bit of everything, some old some new, more a reflection of the various sides of stuff I play. As far as playing room 2 goes I'm looking forward to playing the tougher side of house and techno I don't massively get to play much. I'm super excited by that prospect and will be frantically and continuously digging through music till the date arrives. Oh and finally can I just say hello to my Mam, Dad and Nan! Love you x
