For as long as liquid funk’s been a thing, so have Glenn Herweijer and Zula Warner. The London duo broke through under their celebrated Artificial Intelligence alias back in the early 2000s, embracing what was then a lesser heard sensitive side to drum & bass for labels like Dispatch, V and Metalheadz. Drum & bass has spawned many offshoots over the last two decades, but none have had figureheads that led their subscene quite like Artificial Intelligence. The pair pioneered a breezy style of breaks that embraced the musicality of the genre, a blueprint that’s often been followed and rarely bettered. As they bring their Integral Records imprint to Room One as part of one of our biggest drum & bass sessions of the year this Friday, they dipped into the label’s forthcoming releases for a mix that captures the essence of their densely emotive sound.
