Mala’s revered dubstep label Deep Medi Musik has mostly supported a carefully-selected, tight-knit roster since its inception in 2006, yet occasionally a new act breaks through to become part of their steadily growing family. For Compa, that moment came with this remix of Mavado’s Dem A Talk in 2012, a moody white label that would later be regarded as one of his seminal cuts. After amassing a record collection spanning various genres from the age of 13, Compa went on to discover the 140BPM scene around 2008 through Coki, Skream and Mala – the innovators of the UK’s dubstep movement. He’s also no stranger to us in Farringdon, holding the accolade of playing in all three rooms of our space across the length of his career. His next appearance is with Mala and the rest of the Deep Medi crew this Friday, and ahead of joining us, he compiled a mix befitting of Deep Medi’s famously smoky style. Packed with a batch of fresh dubplates alongside a string of his own weighty tunes for the imprint, this is heads down music made for serious 140BPM devotees.
