Audio: EZ Rollers - FABRICLIVE x Bukem In Session Mix

EZ Rollers have one of the most apt and onomatopoeic names in music, let alone within drum & bass. Often constructed around a main musical phrase, they make d&b that literally rolls out of the speaker, with beats that just drive on out continuously. You could either use the ‘EZ’ to describe the blend of rich melodics they employ atop of the beats or to describe just how they’ve made it look for the last twenty odd years or so. They signed to the legendary Moving Shadow label back in ’93, going on to release three full length albums on the label – the second of which spawned a top 20 hit when ‘Walk This Land’ was used on the soundtrack for Guy Ritchie’s seminal Cockneyed gangster caper, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels. Now focusing on working on their own Intercom label, when we caught up with them we found out that they’re currently prepping themselves for their fifth album next year and in amongst it all we managed to grab a mix from them which might possibly hold a few hints of what you can expect from it and from them when they touch down to play Bukem In Session in Room Two on the 29th June. Dowload: EZ Rollers – FABRICLIVE x Bukem In Session Mix For those who may not be acquainted with your sound, can you introduce your music? Jazzy, funky, often with vocals, sometimes samples, always with beats. What have you been working on recently? We are working on our fifth album with Sian Evans from Kosheen and Darrison. How did you get involved with d&b? Our musical background is soul, rare groove, hip hop, reggae, acid house and rave. That just happened to evolve into d&b. We signed to the legendary Moving Shadow Records in 1993 and it all happened from there! How would you describe the music you make? The relentless pursuit of the unexpected. Can you tell us more about upcoming music from you? Our new album is a combination of beats, samples, instruments and vocals. There are lots of different flavas and tempos. We will be getting some of our friends and favourite artists to do some remixes. I don’t think it will drop until 2013. Ahead of your set here at the end of the month, when you'll be joining Bukem in Room 2, what can we expect from the night? We have played alongside Bukem and at his nights for 20 years! It’s always a pleasure to play any Goodlooking event, the crowd is always up for it. We will be rolling out on a jazzy cosmic vibe with a couple of special never heard before tunes to drop.
