Audio: Left/Right drops a cavernous bass session

Chris Lund, the artist better known as Left/Right, is one of bass music’s chameleons. Operating as a DJ, producer, label boss, promoter and professor since the late 2000s, there isn’t much he hasn’t done to help push the scene forwards. His productions have been among the sound’s most enduring since he broke out in 2009, and, apart from a brief hiatus in 2012, he’s consistently pushed a deep production style that blends UK bass, garage and broken beat. This has partly been helped by a strong academic background (Lund holds degrees in both music composition and audio engineering) that’s only helped his technical ability. With work on labels like BRØKEN and Dirtybird, he’s been picked up by some of dance music’s most prolific artists, but most recently his home has been Punks Music, the distinguished bass label run by Stanton Warriors. As well as his various productions for the imprint, he also handles A&R duties, helping to plant the seed for its enduring appeal. Ahead of his appearance at the label’s takeover at Stanton Sessions this Friday, Left/Right has dropped a mix for us, weaving his own music alongside cuts from the likes of Detboi, Shadow Child and Redlight. Spanning an energetic 30 minutes, the session sees him plunging into a cavernous bass depth that’s well-suited to our own Room Two space.
