After bubbling under the surface for a little while, Northerners Mak & Pasteman recently scored a release on Redlight's Lobster Boy label and have since emerged further from the undergrowth with an impeccably raw and stripped back sound palette. Totally charged and focused toward the dancefloor the duo's productions seem to revel in how minimal they are. You could look at Instra:mental's 'Voyeur' as the kind of ground zero for the bare bones mentality, but basically (as this mixes illustrates) Mak & Pasteman play and produce these type of brittle but punishing greyscale rollers that really work a club soundsystem over and that's probably part of the reason that BBC Radio 1's Monki invited the duo to come and play at her Monki & Friends takeover in Room Three this Friday.
