The inimitable Marcus Nasty is credited by many as a pioneer of the UK Funky scene, but his heritage in UK music runs a lot deeper. With the strains and sounds emanating from his Rinse FM show he’s helped shape the current funky scene, something he’s been doing in a way shape or form since 1999 when he first popped up on pirate station Flava FM. Bringing artists, emcees and vocalists through his show he saw the possibilities aligning themselves before him and in time he formed the N.A.S.T.Y. crew, who according to lead scene source Grimepedia “were an East London-based Grime crew widely considered as pioneers of the grime scene and one of the most popular acts on the underground.” Counting DJ Mak 10 and emcees like Kano, Jammer and D Double E amongst their ranks they had one of the most popular grime shows on another pirate station, Deja Vu, so it comes as no surprise that Marcus’ pedigree on the airwaves eventually found a home at the biggest underground UK radio station, Rinse FM.
Appearing in Room Three for the Urban Nerds takeover next week Marcus passed us this exclusive b2b set with DJ Spoony, hosted by MC Rankin, who’ll be handling mic duties for him on the night. It’s an upfront selection from one of the UK house scene’s most dubplate blessed DJs, the perfect dosage for your weekend prescription.
