Audio: Matthias Tanzmann shares a rare live recording from Moon Harbour at OFF Week

Matthias Tanzmann is one of electronic music’s key artists. Tanzmann’s distinctive style of deep and techy house famously made him one of the favourites of DC-10’s legendary Circoloco party in the early 2000s, but the German native has more than a few strings in his bow. He’s been making rolling and wholly engrossing grooves for the best part of two decades, mostly through his acclaimed imprint, Moon Harbour. Tanzmann founded the label in 2000, and along with offshoot imprints Cargo Edition and Curl Curl it’s been the main outlet for Tanzmann and his close-knit family of artists. Tanzmann brings Moon Harbour to Farringdon on 29th June, so he sent us his set from the label’s most recent party showcase ahead of the date. Recorded earlier this month at Barcelona’s OFF Week, this 70-minute club mix gives a rare insight into Tanzmann’s funk-driven playing style. Download: Matthias Tanzmann Recorded live at OFF Week 15/06/2018 Firstly it’s been some time since you last played for us, what’s been keeping you busy recently? Lots of things. The summer season just started, which involves a lot of travelling for festivals and of course Ibiza. Production wise, I just released a remix for Re.You on Davide Squillace’s This And That label, as well as my track Concrete on the new Moon Harbour Inhouse, Vol. 8 compilation. Can you talk more about the mix you’ve shared? The mix is a live recording from our last Moon Harbour label showcase during Off Sonar week, recorded at Pacha Barcelona. It was a sold out night, and a great party. Where do you typically find most of the music you’re playing nowadays? I get most of my music online, either downloading from online shops or through promo links from friends and other labels. Do you think there’s a common thread that ties the music signed to Moon Harbour together? I like music to be organically groovy and functional for the dancefloor. Moon Harbour started as a deep house label back in 2000, and over the years we’ve opened up to more clubby vibes. Can you talk about the line-up you’ve invited on 29th June? Ninetoes, Luna City Express and myself will all be playing from Moon Harbour. Most people will know Ninetoes through his big hit Finder from 5 years ago, which has just been remixed by Carl Cox and Matador. Luna City Express were one of the first acts to release on the label. They are great DJs and round off the line-up nicely.
