Catching Up With Daniel Avery and his Impending FABRICLIVE 66 Launch Party

Dan Avery used to be a guest blogger for us back when he was turning out regularly to play as a resident for the Kill Em All nights, something he still does to this day. Our record label is releasing his FABRICLIVE 66 CD a week on Monday and well, we're pretty chuffed that we've been able to help support someone as talented as Dan. So in a return to pastures old, he's put together a detailed blog explaining why he picked the people he did for his launch party in Room Two this Friday... I'd like to take some time to talk about the people I'm playing with... Optimo (Espacio) Optimo: the true DJ's DJs. Sadly, I never got the chance to go to their legendary Glasgow club night but everything about them was - and remains - a huge inspiration to me. They have introduced me to so much amazing music over the years both for the floor and for inside my head; downloading a new episode of their podcast was always a special moment. In fact, their How To Kill The DJ mix was the first thing I dug out when I found out I was doing a FABRICLIVE CD as a way of looking how high the bar can be raised. They are some of the most daring, knowledgable and inventive DJs in the game and, for me that is a truly perfect combination. This, of course, means that their own productions are always second to none. Not to mention that they are a pair of proper gents to boot. Check out JD Twitch's amazing new track here (a staple in my recent sets): And hear them do what they do best below (it took me about 2 hours to pick one single set. Go and check them all out): Filthy Dukes Without the Dukes, I wouldn't be writing this now. They gave me my first fabric gigs warming up in Room One and it all went from there. Before that, they welcomed me into their amazing world of Kill Em All, playing in Camden's 'beautiful' Barfly. And even before that, their inspiring lineups caused me to travel from university and visit fabric for the very first time, catching the first train back to Southampton. They’re kindred spirits and two of my best friends. This lineup would be incomplete without them. Listen to this fantastic mix they've made for the night: http://soundcloud.com/filthy-dukes/filthy-dukes-half-in-the-queue KiNK I'm extremely happy to have KiNK playing live on Friday, he has been one of my favourite producers of the decade and I seem to play at least one of his records every single weekend. He takes that original spirit of acid house and twists it into something exciting and very modern. This is going to be a big one! Jon Convex The final piece of the puzzle is one half of the immense Instra:Mental and a guy who is now making some beautifully intense music of his own. It's really exciting for me to have Jon Convex along for the ride. His album Idoru is one of the best things I've heard this year… Catch all these guys and more at FABRICLIVE this Friday night.
